engine noise and headlights

i'm looking to fix the nightmare wiring job that was done to my car. i'm shortening all the ground wires hoping to get rid of the engine noise.

i could hear the engine noise every time i step on the gas. i also noticed that it gets louder when i turn on my headlights. what can i do to reduce/stop the engine noise? does the fact that the noise gets louder when i turn on the headlights say anything?

What's your stereo setup?

Engine noise can result from a ground loop. If you have an amp that's hooked up to a different ground point than the head unit, you can have a ground loop. To fix this, you need to have them both wired to the same ground point.
