Try this:

Get an aftermarket head unit (Alpine can do) with preamp outs (most have them) and an internal amp 45X4 or whatever. 200-300

Get the Bose conversion kits (allow you to bypass the bose amps and use power off the head unit). 20-40

Get a decent amp 400W bridged mono. Go with Rockford or another good name. 300ish

Get a 12" sub w/ a bandpass box. 200-300

I'll let you know more details if you e-mail me. I had a nice sys in my 93 SE. 2 12" Old School Punch Powers f****n shook the block.

I'm currently on my 3rd system in my 3rd gen max....will be changing it out in the spring for some other stuff I have in the closet.

What kinda setup are you aiming for Sound Quality or SPL (loud as hell)...

It all depends on your budget for this....

Let me give you a rundown on the system I was going to throw in my 3rd Gen:

HU: Eclipse 4441
CD: Eclipse 5083
Amp: a/d/s 640.2
Sub Amp: JL Audio 250.1
Front Stage: a/d/s 335i Components
Rear: JL Audio VR690-CX

This system was going to run me around $1900

If you get a DVC model you will need an amp stable to 2 Ohms bridged or a monoblock amp delivering at least 250-300W into a 2 Ohm load.

Look adound for a Class D monoblock amp that you like, most brands will have a model with this amount of power output. Expect to spend about $200 - $300 for this type of amplifier. If you can't afford that stick with a SVC model sub and get a 2x50-75Wrms amplifier and bridge that for the subwoofer that should get you around 200-250Wrms bridged.

Hey, I'll reply here also... The Alpine HU is a good choice. Alpine is weird. They go back and forth between designs (**** last year but pushbutton this year) but they are all good.

As far as Alpine subs, they're not well too known for having good Subs. Repeat performers are JL Audio, Rockford Fosgate (Power Series), and a few others. JL Audio subs are highly recommended.

I actually built a box for my older Punch 12's (pair) hooked up to my Punch 200. Now, you want hard hittin' with the lowest rolloff, nasty nasty. I built it to specs and Rockford provides the info for it. You should ALWAYS have an enclosure meant for your specific subs. It is all enclosure and design. A bandpass box will give you a harder hit (kickdrum type) than a ported box.

If you want low end, block shaking ****, go with 2 12"s in a ported enclosure (Go buy Bass Patrol, it's an early 90's disc of ALL bass). If you want the "beat the hell out of your head with a pipe ****", go with a bandpass in a single or dual flavor.

Either way, there are plenty of options for you. One rule is to shy away from Alpine subs. They're V12 amps are great for components but amps like Precision Power and Rockford deliver some good sub driving power.

Granted, I may get some other opinions about amps and specs but my knowlegde is from years of experience with this stuff and I have a lot of friends that are into this ****. I don't want to get too technical with you. I'm just letting you know the equipment that left am impression with me.

If you want to go with one 12" (But go with 2, it's only 100.00 or so more) Get an amp that was built to deliver only monaural power. No bridging needed.
