5th gen Qforms ?

Say folks, I want to get some serious mid base (50 - 100 hz) up front in my 2K1 Max so here's my question...Can someone confirm if there is room to do one of 2 things....#1 is to by the Qforms kick panels and move my Boston Pro 6.5" there and install an 8" speaker in the doors, OR leave the 6.5s in the door and cram an 8" into the kick panel pods. Size and depth are obvious issues with respect to an 8" speaker. The doors seem awfully deep, just not sure if its possible. I guess one other option is to just slam an 8" speaker in the door and not even run the 6.5" at all if the 8" can run up into the mid-range frequencies but that might be a stretch also. Any thoughts suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Midbass is easiest gotten from installing the larger woofer in the door. Its not hard to do, as long as there isnt a depth issue with the door, and the door MUST be covered with Dynamat or the like to seal it. You will have a very hard time installing an 8" woofer in a Maxima Kick panel....

I thought as much on the kick panel install....would an 8" accurately reproduce the upper midrange frequencies to blend in with the tweeter or would I still need a 6.5 or smaller driver to bridge that gap?

You will be hard pressed to find any 8" driver that can blend nicely with a 1" dome tweeter. Some 2" mid-tweeters might go low enough to work well with an 8" woofer. ScanSpeak has some 7" drivers which are known to work very well with 1" tweeters, but this can require some fancy X-over designs, particularly if the Kevlar drivers are used. If you go with the 8" woofer, you might consider using it in conjunction with a 5.25 mid-woofer and a 1" tweeter. ScanSpeak makes a line of well respected midranges called "cone-domes". I believe their series of cone-dome drivers begins with the 8640 model. Since both the midrange and the woofer will be installed as partial "free air" please make sure that the driver Qts is high - preferably over 6.0 - for both the woofer and midrange. Good luck!

Thanks ABS, I figured as much on the 8" to 1" blending....I guess if I have to have more bass up front I'll either add another 6.5" in a kickpanel to couple with door speaker and gain me 3dB or try to cram a 8" sub in a small sealed box underneath the dash somewhere....decisions, decisions...First thing first though I need to upgrade my sub in the rear deck to a 10" version and play with crossover settings to see how things sound there.
