$550 to spend...help me out
head unit :Rockford Fosgate RFX9000 (it can play MP3 cds) $240
component system: Rockford Fosgate FNP2614 $109
rear speakers : Rockford Fosgate HPC1206 (150 watts RMS each) $81
AMP:Rockford Fosgate Punch 120.2 2-channel Amplifier $119
the price comes out to just under $550, you will need to add about 30-40 bucks for the wireing though.......i suggest you power the components with the head unit and use the amp to power the rear speakers, later on if you decide to get subs, just add another amp.

Kenwood KDC-MP8017 MP3/CD Player 270-
Infinity Kappa 60.3cs 6-1/2" Comps 200-
Infinity Reference REF652I 70-
I'd leave the rear deck speakers and save up for either a full sub setup amp,box/subs,cap or a infinity basslink which is good for bass.
Rear speakers when upgraded lose a great amount of bass, the stocks speaker produce more.
Rockford, Rocker frogger
they just have cash to aquire a real speaker company MB Quart hopefully they'll stay good

The best seek time, sound quality, and reliability right now for a MP3 deck is the Alpine model. I forget the model number, unfortunately. But it cost over $750, so it's out of your range.
But anyway, I have the kenwood Z828, and love it. It comes with many more features than the Kenwood listed above, and is their "high end" MP3 deck.
It sounds better than my Sony CDX-910 did, and that was a $1200 deck that won many, many accolades in 1997-2000
