You can see most of this in my sig. The upgraded alt is really not needed. I had to get something with the return on the Nak MB-100. In all seriousness the amp draw is quite low. With the PG running all four channels at 2 ohms I think it was drawing a max load of 5-12 amps with a rap CD turned up pretty high. Didn't have the 1000D hooked up then, or now.

two amps...running over 200 rms to the sub, and 200 rms to the interior, runs fine with battery and alternator the car came with...

Last system was 1100W RMS.
600 to subs, 250/channel to mids/highs.
Interstate battery, 1F cap, stock alternator (stock sized. replaced w/ reman unit just after buying the car- before the stereo was ever in it).

total current draw was slightly over 100 amps at full tilt. fused at 150 on main fuse, never blew, but I blew my 60A sub fuse a couple times

This system will be ~2200W RMS.
1200 to subs. about 500/channel to midbass/mids/highs. haven't worked out the details yet.
going to run a 5F cap and one, maybe two Optima yellow tops, relocated to the trunk to make room for the turbo.
figure I'll be better off that way.. pushing 95A from the alternator back there to the battery, instead of ~350A for the whole system from the battery to the distro block.

I'd say you are quite safe with the stock alt with up to 2500 to 3500 watts, if say roughly half or more of the power supply is class D. You'll go a lot further with good capacitance than you will with a big alt. And the install is much, much simpler, cheaper, and reliable.

haven't checked prices around lately, but the local shop talked me into buying a 2F cap today for $175.
no stupid gauges or anything like that, just a cap and mounting hardware. how's that sound?

(brand is Eagle Power or something like that I think. Dealer said they're one of the few in the country who actually make their own caps. the rest of the people buy from them and repakage)..

I think the retail on the Alumapro 5 farad is about $250. So you should be able to do a bit better. Let me know, I'll check the dealer where I got my 15 farad.

Well, in two years my ears haven't heard any 'unclear' signal. And my DMM hasn't signaled any problems either. I read one bad review of the alumapro a couple years ago and it failed to show any example of the supposed problems actually occurring.

i've heard this from friends, and when i was interested in buying the 15 farad Alumapro cap, the guy at the store actually tried to convince me not to get it (which was weird becuase that is the most expensive cap they had) because of its unclear power current

Seeing as I have the 15 farad cap I can tell you that your "friends" are wrong. And the most expensive cap is the 50 farad.

Jayson,

How much did you pay for the 15 farad?

What ever retail was back in 99. I think like 400-500.
