Replacing the Bose head unit in a 2001

I recently purchased a Sony XM radio that I use with one of those cassette adapters. I love XM radio, but the radio itself isn't that great.

My car has the Bose system with the factory changer. I would like to switch to an in-dash XM radio, probably a Pioneer. The guy at the store told me that Bose systems are incompatible with normal radios and I would either have to switch speakers or use a "Bose adapter" that he said doesn't work very well. He also said I would no longer be able to use my factory changer and he wasn't sure about my steering wheel controls.

I want someone to tell me that he's wrong and I can just replace the Bose radio with a XM radio and have everything still work! Can I do this?

you shoulda gotten the Pioneer FR/modulated XM unit, that you you could have used it with your new Pioneer headunit. I install these about 3-5 times a week and i dont really see a big deal with them, except the $10 a month bill, lol.
