Not too sure. I know the Viper is a good car alarm. However I've been doing a little research about different types of alarms and have pretty much decided on this the Crimestopper 2006FM2 Its one of 2 or 3 alarms I have seen that have a pager function ie if your car is being broken into/whatever. The LCD is not super high quality but it wont break but it does its job pretty well. I know someone with the 2005 and they love it. They can remote start there car a good 2000 feet away w/o a problem. They also get alarm warnings at that distance etc. He's quite happy with it. I myself am probably going to order one tomorrow once I find out about the windows up/down features, trunk release as well as warranty if they have one.

Look around e-bay they can be found for $200 shipped or a bit less if you are willing to hunt. FYI the FM1 = one remote, FM2 = two remotes.

Ask my opinion....Go with the Viper !!! DEi (company that makes them) Makes anything and everything and more than any other brand out there. Most installers at point or another use DEI pieces to complete alot of installs, no matter what brand the alarm itself is. As far as a pager...they make that too. Keep in mind pagers are FM modulated and can hook up to just about any alarm. So don't buy an alarm because it has a pager, get a good alarm and add a pager.

Aren't the CrimeStopper ones any good? The prices I see only are pretty awesome for an alarm that does so much. Granted the Viper 550 is installed all over the place. Maybe its too common? ie a thief could bypass an alarm they have seen on numerous ocassions more easily vs a less common alarm?

Regardless of the alarm type a thief can take ANY car if he really wants. Besides the fact ALL alarms get connected to the same wires neccesary to control the car. Is crimestopper any good.....? Well put it this way I used to install them (not by choice). We had a defective one out of every ten. Granted they did improve alot since then, but still can anyone say that they had this many problems with a Viper? Yes the 550ESP is common, but that would be because alot of people want/get them. Price wise.....you do get what you pay for. Keep that in mind. If you pay the price of a Hyundai, don't expect the quality of a Maxima!

Lol true However the MSRP/street price of the Crimestopper is a fair bit higher than the Viper 550. The only alarm I can think off that would be better than the two is another one that has a battery attached to the speaker so that when the wire is cut it goes off the speaker also has a radio transmitter which gets a signal from the car. No idea about its name though.....

I know Clifford used to make that siren/battery. Being that about 2 yrs ago now,DEI bought Clifford I would guess that is also made by DEI. Look into DEI's website at....Directed.com
