What Do You Think Of This Headunit?
What Do You Think Of This Headunit?
It's a Pioneer headunit that I saw in my Crutchfield magazine today. I kinda fell in love with it and now I want it.
http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S...0&I=130DEHP740
I was wondering, if I get this headunit, will I be able to control the bass that goes to the subwoofers separately from the bass that goes to the speakers? My friend has this with his car and it's a nice feature to prevent blowing your speakers, or getting crappy sound. It says it has preamp outputs, so I think it can be done, but I'm not 100% sure.
Sorry guys, not too knowledgeable in the Audio field.
Thanks,
-Nick

I am considering selling my 9200 Pioneer for the 7400. I want that MP3 playback
buying the thing seperately is pointless, I rather have 1 deck playing everything. It's sweet.
By the way,
they are on Ebay for way cheaper then CROTCHfield. Check it out, like 250$ with a buy it now. Or you can bid and win it for less.

that head unit is good it has 3 sets of outputs
front, rear and sub outputs so you can filter stuff pretty well.It really makes a difference to have these outputs because you can customize your whole musical output rather well

i install that unit about 10times a day at the Best Buy shop. Very good quality and never have complaints about it.
Best Buy discount is $185, i could hook you up with one, but if you have a problem your on your own.
let me know,

This HU does everything under the sun. I wouldnt buy it though unless you really dig the graphics, or youre going to setup a nice amp and sub. If youre just gonna some component speakers, I would recommend the JVC SX-980...awesome new HU with lots of features CHEAP. just my .02
6400
since alot of you have the 6400...on mine, if i change the output to front+subs in the initial settings to be able to control my subs...the rear speaker make no sound, only bass. Is some thing wired wrong?? Or is the HU just that way?? but when you switch it to front+rear, it's all good...but wanna controll the subs too
lemme know what you think

Pioneer decks have true MOSFET power, which they like to advertise as being able to power a sub or two stright from the deck. To do this you wire your rear speaker outputs to a sub(s) and turn that setting you are talking about in the setup menu to Front/Sub to activate it. If you are running rear speakers powered by the deck you want to go with the other setting option that I believe shows Front/Rear. Hope this info helps.

For anyone that knows their stuff..
do you think the P92000 is better then the 7400? I know the 9200 is older, but it's more expensive and it has some more features, which i really have no idea about since i got the deck used and haven't really played around with it enough.... I do kind of wish i had a turn **** for the volume instead of buttons
if it makes any difference, I am looking to add new front and rear speakers, 2 10s and a couple of amps as soon as i get the $. thanks

Wow thats actually a pretty tough choice. Your 9200 is one of Pioneer's flagship decks(from 2 yrs ago) and the new 7400 has one feature(MP3 playback) that makes it almost worth it to downgrade.
The big plus in my eyes about running a full out system with your current 9200 is that you have 3 RCA 4 Volt Preouts. These are the connectins used to send the music signal to your amps. The higher the voltage the better signal quality and clarity to the amps. Ideally you want 3 of these..(1-->sub, 2-->front channels, 3--> rear channels), however, you can run a fully amplified system with 2(1-->sub, 2-->front/rear channels but you will lose your balance or fade feature on the deck). The 7400 series has 2 RCA 2 Volt Preouts. Which is not bad by any means, just not as high quality as the 9200. The other big feature you will be losing is the motorized face. Your 9200 has a fully motorized flip down face while the 7200 is flip down but not motorized. Personally, I love this feature. To some its a novelty, that decision is up to you. Those are your big differences in the two decks....what I would recommend is going with a Pioneer 7400 Premier. The Premier series is their luxury line of decks if you will. They are generally sold at private shops more so than your huge retail super stores(BBY, CC, etc). The premier will be a little more expensive but will step you up to 3 4 Volt RCA's which in my eyes will set the 7400 and 9200 side by side in the way of sound quality, but you would still lose your motorized face.
Here are a few links to help you out:
Pioneer 7400
Pioneer Premier 7400
Keep an eye out on Ebay...There arent any on there right now, but I have seen the Premier's sell right around 300 bucks and the regular 7400's for 275 or so.

Wow, thanks for taking time out to answer my question. That was one of the most thorough replies I have gotten in a while
I definately would like to have the preouts, the motorized face is also a handy feature when switching CDs while on the road. My friends have non motorized lower model Pioneers and although they aren't that bad, i still like mine more. Having the MP3 feature is nice, and I'd like the turn **** for the volume control, besides that, I'm happy with my deck. Thanks for answering my question! I'll look into the Premier models, I was just going to ask about the differences between Premier and regular Pioneer decks

Not a poblem...Anything for a fellow Maxima enthusiast
Most big audio companys, like Pioneer, Yamaha(home audio), etc have two seperate lines, one for private shops and one for their big retail clients. The volume Pioneer pushes through Best Buy and Crutchfield alone is enough to dwarf their Premier series sales. This high demand forces them to focus on ouput not on precision workmanship. All Pioneer products are very high quality, its just the little things that take the Premier to the next level. They are mostly hand built, usually have a higher grade of circuitry, etc. Hope this helps in your search for a new deck.
