$h!T, just blew half my voice coils!

Anyone know how to check a headunit or EQ/Crossover for clipping? Everything on my left channel, except maybe a single mid and tweet, just blew. My sub gets a mono signal from the Symmetry. But the left side of that channel is also shot. I only have one of the three twelves hooked up, and they are all dual voice coil. The coil that gets the signal from the left side of the HU and Symmetry is as toasted as both left mid bass drivers. It really has to be something before the amps, lost at least one coil, all left side, on each amp.

are you sure your coil and speakers blew? maybee it's the headunit output, or even the RCA cable?

I am pretty sure it's the voice coils. A couple of the coils are only partially burnt. They are still fluttering for narrow frequecy bands. But now that it's daylight I will be going out soon to take a close look at the damage. The left tweet and a single 5 1/4 on the left may still be working. I currently only have one of the three 12's connected, to an MTX 4320 4 channel amp instead of the 1000D. It's bridged to two channels and each 4 ohm coil of the twelve gets a mono signal.

It's amazing the light that five hours sleep and the sunlight yield. It's turned out to be one squashed RCA cable and a loose wire inside the sub box. So instead of about $1100-1200 worth of speakers, just some creative rewiring. Still have to get the center pin dislodged from the left rear input of my PG ZX475Ti. But that should get the last two speakers working.

I have absolutely no clue why the rear speaker wasn't working. It seems fine after rewiring everything else.

I knew your problem sounded kind of weird. I myself have experienced how effective a proper wiring job, and a good set of rca's can be. By the way, I also have the 1000d. How come yours isn't hooked up?

Because I am too busy working on other problems to work on my own system. And the fact that I have a tiny garage and only one car. So I have to balance stripping the car and driving the car as diplomatically as possible. Then there is the weather issue. As my resin won't properly cure below 50 degrees and my hands are worthless below 70.
