Subwoofer and Midrange settings

I have been reading my HU manual and it has an feature that allows you to adjust the frequency of both the sub and midrange. It ranges from 50hz to i think 180hz. What should my sub be set to and what should my mids be set too. Should I reference my manual from my speakers or is there a way to determine what they should be set to. Also do you guys use the head unit cross overs or the cross overs on the amp?

PERFECT SYSTEM

Midranges : from 150hz and up
Midbasses (in the doors) : 75 hz to 150hz
Subwoofer: 50hz and down (i would go even lower then 50)

I hate 50-65hz range coz it makes your bass boomy.

If you just have 2-way components set your woofers in the doors from 75 and up and then the passive crossover devides the signal between the tweeter and the woofer.

Install is more imortant for the sub, but 50 and down is the best!

Peersonally, I feel, I mean really feel that there is a lot of midbass in the 50-75 range that needs to be heard, and felt. So go ahead and cut off those frequencies if you don't want any in your face punchy bass. But my doors are getting down to at least 75 if not lower, and the sub gets plenty of 60 and 70 Hz and it is not at all muddy or boomy.

I agree. If you can get your subs to 80 hz, you should still be out of the range of hearing any voices. Just cross your interior speakers to 80 hz high-pass, and your Subs to 80 hz low pass. You'll be able to hear every frequency.

Everything is hooked up.

Apline head unit, eclipse 6.5 all around, rockford 450s amp, 12L7 Kicker sub

I just need to tune everything...I get plenty of bass...car shaking bass! I just have one other question. My HU has a built in cross over that I can set the frequency of each set of speaker. Should I turn the cross overs off on the amps or should I turn the cross overs off on the HU?

I kinda like to have as much control of the system as possible fom the drivers seat. So I would use the HU controls if they can be adjusted to the frequencies that I would want in a system. Nothing like sitting at a red light and swapping in a rap CD for a classic rock or jazz CD and wanting to get more low mid bass, but being unable because your adjustments are in the trunk.
