MTX Thunder 6000s SUCK

You should not have gotten them...And I don't know anything on the Infinity stuff either...Oh yea and even though I'm sure it looks real nice Pioneer head units are terrible, just look at how many threads there have been about bad reception with the "Supertuners" they come with...oh and they break a lot-I've seen three go bad within a year first hand.

What are you comparing MTX6000s to? Focals? JL W7s? I think MTX is a great company for reliablity, and the quality of the subs are pretty darn good for the prices (ie, you won't blow your sub when you get near the max wattage).

As for the pioneers, their SQ isn't as good as HUs in the same price range because they decide to give you options and more options instead of SQ. Other than that, there's nothing really wrong with Pioneer. And who listens to that crap called radio anymore? Get satellite radio... at least you don't have to listen to talk crap and commercial crap all of the time. Not to mention the same songs played in an hour loop.

I've had Pioneer Head units in all of my four cars....not a single problem with them at all. I have also had MTX subs in every one of my cars, again no problems....It seems like antime anbody has a question about something that doesnt cost a million dollars, you guys say it sucks...Not everybody can go out and buy high end expensive stuff....I'm not going to competitions or anything I just want something that will sound good..So if there are any people out there that can let me know if this system will sound good, then please let me know, as for everybody else who hates on anything that isnt top end, keep your opinions to yourself....Thanks....

I'll vouch for the Infinity's. (605cs/652i). Just supply them with ample power and wait until it breaks in. For the price, it's a good system.

Just look around for deals I just put together a basic/decent stereo and did not pay more than 50% of MSRP on a single item. And that was not on E-Bay either

Pioneer is not my first choice, but they are a large, respectable company that makes good products. Someone shouldn't flame "Pioneer" in general, or "Sony", or "Kenwood", etc. just based on reputation alone. Each company has its strong and weak points just like the elite names. For example, I would highly recommend an Eclipse CD player but not their amps. I would highly recommend a Phoenix Gold ZX amp, but not their speakers. You get the idea.

SilverMax: How much were the Infinity speakers? Check out the HC650 Focal coaxials. They will sound much better than the Infinitys...even the components. Uscaraudio carries them for $140 or something like that. You can't beat that price!! Just an idea...

I was able to. Got the Ref (comps and coax) for $60 shipped

Got it off E-Bay for that amount but it was a torn set. Called up Infinity. They sent me a brand new set.

Now i have the brand new set in my car and the Ebay set in my closet (good for spare parts, aside from having one damaged woofer from each set everything is in perfect condition)

I agree with you on the Focal's though. That thing was made for SQ. Perfect balance of high's, mids and lows.

And for about $250 total you can get 2 IDQs which are a LOT better than the W3s.

If you're on a budget, go for an off brand. ID subs can be found for pretty cheap and are awesome. Autotek amps are high quality and cost a lot less than MTX, RF, etc. And then you have to ask yourself, are you buying a name or a quality product? And are you buying glitz or are you buying something that gives up the glitz for better sound? Sure, go out and get a Pioneer or Sony or something else sold at BestBuy or Circuit City. You can get somethign with screen savers and flashy buttons and:
1. get not as great sound quality cause all that extra crap is causing noise in the music
2. get your HU stolen because it says "come steal me... I have a lot of glitz".

Just for a little comparison, I have heard several people say that a Nakamichi cd-45z is comparable to the Alpine 7909 (the best Alpine HU you can get). And what's the price difference?? its amazing. I haven't seen a 7909 in a while, but it goes for about $750-$1000 on ebay and the Nak goes for around $300 on ebay. The only true differences in the HUs: A big name and glitz.

Mostly what you just said is opion there, IDQ subs are SQ, where as W3's are more SPL, IDQ is not "off brand" by any means. And the whole alpine vs. Kak? come on the differances are obvious, sure the nak might sound good but I hear those things break down a lot thus I stay away. its like comparing a fricken kia to a maxima. and save the spam for the table.

Your heart and advice is in the right place, you just chose a bad example!! You CAN'T compare the Nakamichi CD-45z and the Alpine 7909. The 7909 has been hailed as one of the best, if not THE best, head units of ALL TIME. It's considered an industry reference standard. The CD-45z is a great head unit, but Nak also makes the CD-700 (MSRP $1,750), which is within the range of the 7909. And the 7909 is not glitz. Like the CD45z, (and most Nak products for that matter) the 7909 is a very simplistic "purist" CD player with almost no frills.
