Windws 98 vs Windows XP?
Choice c) win2000
Its the most stable of all of the windows, and works great with corporate software (ie Photoshop, CAD software, programming software). 98 crashes all the time and I've been having lots of problems with XP. Sometimes it doesn't want to recognize that I'm on an ethernet network, sometimes it doesn't load any of my icons in my task bar... the list goes on.

i use 98 ME, i have XP dual booting. but i hardly use xp.. it's such a pain to use. all these little things that try to make thiings easier.
i just want a simple working OS, and that for me would be 98. it's not as fast in loading stuff as XP, but it's nice and simple. and i don't get any errors or bugs. but again, i don't keep a lot of crap running in the background, nor do i put backgrounds, or sounds, or anything else not really neccessary for me.

If you don't play games and want something stable, go with Win 2k.

2000 is the best OS but given a choice between XP and 98 I would choose XP any day. XP also has compatability mode for those programs too stuborn to work in an NT based kernel enviornment.

As for XP are you talking about those silly XP pop ups about updating windows etc? Yeah I already nuked those annoying little things.
This thread is funny to me. . .I guess that I'm a lucky one, or something. I've been using XP Home on my laptop and XP Pro on my desktop for months now, and it's been the most stable Windows I've used. I do video editing on my desktop, and have yet to have a lockup w/ XP Pro. I use my laptop an average of 5hrs a day and had ZERO lockups in the past 4 months! It is a PIII 800Mhz, 256MB, 20GB Fujitsu Lifebook.
I'm an IT Manager at work, and we use Win98SE and Win2k on our workstations. I would choose Win2k over 98SE any day, but it all depends on your application. If you have alot of older games/hardware/etc. , then 98SE may be the best for you.
I recommend XP to everyone at my office for their home computers (assuming they have PIII 500mhz+ and 128MB+). It does take some tweaking to kill the annoying stuff, but in my experience, it's the best.
Just do a search on google for Windows XP Tips, and you'll find out how to hex the annoying crap.

See that's what all the IT Managers say, that XP is the most stable but it's incomatible still with some of the oldies!
Hmmm, mine stand for Virginia Tech.
Where's the car meet? I've been stuck in my room for the past week or so with projects and stuff and have been out of the loop with everything. If its on Saturday, I'm game.
Oh yea, just an FYI, IEEE (group for electrical engineers) will be having a car show/audio show early next semester. Looks like signup fee will be around $10 for entry (if you're showing off your car), they'll be a bunch of different categories, and most likely the top 3 of each category will win a cash prize (nothing much though... you won't be rich if you win). I've also contacted Harman and it looks like either Infinity and/or JBL is interested in setting something up (they asked for a 40'x40' space... gotta be something cool!). This isn't going to be some hardcore competition like IASCA or whatever, its basically for people to come out, show off their car no matter how few mods or whatever you have, and possibly get some money in return. And having a bunch of "classes" or categories or whatever you want to call it will increase chances of people winning. This is so people can't come in that have mommy and daddy pay for everything and with their brand new car with professional installs all around and win everything. That's just not fair.

Win Xp is hands down better than win9x/ME and is better than win2k in terms of compatability.
