Safe to unhook sub and amp?

Is it safe to disconnect my amp and sub (and take them out) and just leave the wires in the trunk with electrical tape on them until my smaller sub gets here? Should I make sure of anything before doing this or is it ok if some wires touch others?
Thanks for any help

amp removal

just make sure you pull out the main fuse (under the hood next to battery) and wrap the rca, unless you want to blow a pre amp on your deck, and then you will be safe.

It all depends on how much power your amp is running. The higher the amp fuse on the amp, the more powerful your amp. If your fuse rating on your amp is, let's say, 30 amps, then it will say it is safe to run a 40 amp fuse near the battery.

ok, I got my Basslink today and the amp's fuse is a 20A--it says in the booklet: "Install a fuse holder with a 20A fuse within 18" of the battery + terminal"

my question is: Will it be safe to have a 40 or 50 amp fuse near the battery with the 20A on the amp?
thanks again

fuse size.

You should really put in a 20a or 30a fuse as the one on the amp will go first and might cause damage to the amp, before the 40-50a fuse at the battery went.

Installing a fuse at least 18" or closer to the battery is a MUST! If anything happens to short circuit, the fuse will blow before frying anything down the line. This protects the electrical system from shortening out. An amp with only a 20 amp fuse rating is relaively low, so it would be safe to run a 30 amp fuse near the battery. It's safer this way, depending how far you're powering your amp (i.e. the trunk). You want to keep the fuse kind of high (near the battery) because the current must travel a considerable distance. Also note, thicker gauge wire (8 or less, depending on installation) carries more current.
