How do I get the Antenna to not come up w/cd player?

I just got my pioneer 6400 HU installed and I dont like the idea about the antenna popping up everytime I turn it on. Is there some way to have it not come up?

depending on how the head unit is set up there is a way on my alpine radio that allows that to happen. either that or you head unit was not wired up right

Not necessarily

jdmmax,

Some models of radios don't have dedicated antenna leads and installers use the remote turn on to power the antenna, I know as I have a Pioneer 7200, to remedy the situation I installed a switch to to open the antenna's pwr (not to the amps!, bad juju)

The downside is everytime I play the radio, I manually have to raise the antenna, and lower it prior to turning the car off, otherwise the antenna stays up,....not the installers fault as it's a bad design and there aren't many options.

Only certain models of head units have an internal switch for power antennas when only the tuner is switched on. Years ago, I also ran into this problem of the antenna being up at all times when my stereo was on. But, later, after buying a new Kenwood headunit, the unit had a switch built inside where when the tuner was on, the antenna would also turn on. And, if I switch sources, such as to the CD, the antenna would turn off. The only way around this, I believe, if your antenna stays on all the time, is maybe just hook up a switch to its lead to turn off and on to your own liking when your stereo is powered.

That's okay...I used the power from the antennae to power the accessories lead to my Kenwood amps...(2 small ones) and the mast goes up and down regardless of whether or not the radio is on or tape or cd is playing. I am not certain if I remove the lead and connect it more safely, whether it will right itself or I may have messed up the antennea wiring.

MIXXMAX, what Kenwood unit did you get and how did you hook it up? I have only the Kenwood KRC-207S cassette deck with changer controls. Do you think there is a way to hook this thing up so that it will leave the antenna down when the cassette player or changer is on? When I had the double-din Clarion head unit hooked up that was one thing that I loved about the system.
