Are there places in the trunk that provide better bass?

Just wondering. I have my Kicker Comp 10inch facing straight forward, so you can see the front when you open the trunk. That provides good bass, but i didn't know if it sounded better it different areas.

Also, on a different note.

Could someone explain to me the procedure if i want to take 16 ga speaker wire and wire it up to my speakers. The rear 2 are easy, just up from the amp to the speakers, but for the fronts, its a little different. Someone told me i could run the speaker wires from the amp to the front, like they were going to the HU, and then where the speaker wires come from the HU and attach to the wire harness, i could do something around there, instead of just taking the speaker wires from the amp and making them go into the door and attached directly to the speaker. Whats the easiest method?

thanks

Try facing it the other way, towards the rear. Mine sound better that way.

Facing the rear has always worked the best for mine. I think I may have told you about that wiring trick. I've drawn a diagram to explain it. Its hard to understand verbally but a very easy concept.

Fire the sub through the armrest and seal it off from the trunk. Trust me it works

Personally I think its best to face the sub toward the rear and not have it firing through the arm rest hole. Your trunk in essence acts like a box enclosing your box the sub is in. Firing it toward the rear gives the sub more air inside the trunk to move so its usually louder. If you face it towards the inside of the car in sub doesn't move as much air because its only hitting against the back of your seats. This is just my opinion though, so your best bet is to just experiment and find what you think sounds best.

I have mine facing up right behind my rear seat hole. Hits hard sounds loud that way and sounds GOOD. Course it is an IDMAX 12 with 900rms goint to it but thats another story......

With my 12w3 I had it firing back, sounded best that way, and with my kicker 10 I had way back in the day, I fired it back too!

What is the point of taking 16ga wire and spicing it into stock speaker wire? I thought that going to a 16 ga wire i would want to run that directly to the speakers, just like i would be doing to the rear speakers. I can't see why there would be a mix of Good 16 ga wire and stock wire.

thanks

Its a trick to save you from having to run new wire all the way to the front and through the doors, which can be a PIA. If you arent running an IASCA SQ caliber system then the stock wire will be fine.

Warbucks is right, unless you think you can tell the difference, which the vast majority of people can't, you shouldn't be able to preceive any loss of SQ by using the stock wiring for the speakers. If you are an audiofile-tweakhead like myself, you won't be happy with anything else other than running your own 16-guage from the amp to the speakers (even if the only difference in SQ is in your head). Before you do, you better make sure you are able to do this through the front doors. On my 5th gen Max, the wiring harness is hard-wired from the front doors to the inside of the car and the only way I could get my speaker wire through there was to drill a hole behind the kick panels. The rear doors were much easier b/c there was a rubber boot that I was able to feed the wire through. I'm not sure what setup you have in your 4th-gen.

As far as sub placement, there prolly isn't much difference in SQ or output regardless of where you put it. But, try putting it in different locations and see if you notice a difference. The best location, in my opinion, is to mount the sub box under the package shelf with the woofer facing into the passenger compartment firing off the rear window. This isn't the easiest job with our Maximas, but it can be done. This location would provide you not only with the most output, but the bass would "end up" more in the front of the car, so you wouldn't even know your sub was in the trunk, but would sound like it's in the front doors. Of course, this is the goal of most sub setups...some brands/installs just do a better job at it.

Ok, thanks for that info guys. Another question. What is the differece if you have your subwoofer in an enclosure and it uses the trunk as the box, or you have your sub in a box already, and that box sits in the trunk. The reason i ask is because i have been looking at how JL audio has that stealth box for the maxima, where it sits in the left back corner of the trunk, molded into that corner (right behind the left brake light. Is it hard to make a box similar to JL's stealth box by yourself, or is it worth forking out the money to buy one. I would just like to free up some space in my trunk, maybe by harnessing the amps so they "hang" from the top of the trunk, and then getting my 10inch in that corner. As you can see from my pictures posted earlier in the thread, i take a good chunk of my trunk. WOuld i lose any bass quality by having the sub in the corner. I guess i could always try the arm rest hole idea, but i would have to have the arm rest down all the time, right?

thanks

There is no comparison between a sub in a box in your trunk and a sub that uses the trunk as a box. The output and SQ will be insanely better with a good box in your trunk no matter where it's mounted or facing.

If you have the $$ get the JL Stealthbox. Do a search and you won't be disapointed. The Stealthbox is custom-made & tuned for your Max in both size and output. If they made them for my 5th gen I would have it already!
