What is the lightest sub but still with good quality?

I have a 99 Max that just got sold and it had 2 Earthquake ***** 15's with a Memphis Audio 1100RMS watt class D amp. I love my bass and I LOVED that set up. HOWEVER my new car is going to be a lot smaller than that and there is just no room for my system. Plus I am starting to get really concerned about weight. Basically I want to downgrade to two 12's in a fibreglass box (professionally done of course) and that is it. Having said that.......which 12's are really light? I want the lightest possible 12's, but I still want the quality to be good. Anyways please if anybody has an answer for me that would be awesome. Just post here.......thanks in advance.

i might be a little biased, but how about shiva's?? they aren't all fancy so they have a steel basket, which is pretty light. the SQ is supposed to be awesome. the reason i might be biased is because i have the bigger version of the shiva, the tempest. the tempest is a 15" version of the 12" shiva. i think i'm going to go with a single shiva next, cause the weight might be a bit much for me for the 15". oh and another thing about the shiva is that it won't run you a lot of money.

I think I have made my choice......I am going to go with 2 12" Fusion subs in a custom fibreglass box with the Memphis Audio 1100watt amp. Estimation: about 35 pounds for the whole system......I am pretty impressed with that. What do you guys think?

Sounds good, why worried about weight though? you could always make it removable..... or just add horses! And Victor buy a Brahma! You know you want one!

Ya I know but removing is only good at the track......I also want it on the street as well. When I took out my old system it took two of us just to get the box out of the trunk......the whole setup was REALLY heavy. Don't get me wrong that system was LOUD......man was it loud......I loved it....but speed is a little more important to me....but I still want bass.......after all I am only 20 so I want the best of both worlds....bass and speed. Hopefully the new system/car will give me both!

Understandable! i'm right there with ya! I can't say my system willl be light, but it will be as light as i can make it, so i won't be using MDF to build my box, maybe birch or some crap, it's good to have a dad who is a guru of woodworking

i'd love a brahma. if i had a slow car, i'd pick one up, no problem. but i hate feeling sluggish in the maxima. i think a single brahma weighs around 40lbs. which is a damn lot.

I think you should get the JL Audio 12W7 like me... The woofer itself is only 45 pounds...

Get a 10W7, it only requires 1.50 ft of volume. Why do you care about weight?

Re: Re: Re: Re: What is the lightest sub but still with good quality?

Because I am still concerned about speed/weight/acceleration ratios. The max was still quick but when I took it all out the next day I was amazed at how much faster it was!

Kicker has always made excellent speakers.. A nice one was the Kicker SS CTF dual 10'S. It was made for the Camaro, Trans-Am and the Firebird (hence the CTF) (flush fit) but it had port plugs whick allowed for a sealed tupe of box or ported. Nice sound

12w0 is a very efficent(needs very little power) sub and weighs as much as both of my 6x9's probably, lol. Plus you can even get away with using 1/2" mdf instead of 3/4" if your really concerned about weight.

my.o2 Im done here

BRADMAX thanks for the compliments man, im in the process of getting those rims back from the police cause they were jacked about a month ago along with my entire video system So as soon as i get all my stuff back ill post some up to date pics!

Victor.. what do you think, Adire Shiva or the Kicker Comp VR series 12"? I'm looking for SQ and some clean bass.. Shiva is 125$ shipped, Comp VRs are like 160$? not sure.. what is better

Kicker. Another dedicated to car audio..

I know I sound biased towards home audio crossovers but that's how I feel...

Pretty much everyone makes a subwoofer these days...

If you put Pyramids in a box, they will sound good. Would I buy one, nope.

Do you have any friends that have systems??? That's your best bet

i'd go with the shiva cause it's cheaper. but i think both should sound equally the same.

mind you the shiva has a pretty ugly looking cone/dustcap. so if looks are something you want then get the comp vr. power handling and impedance is something else you should look at before you buy.

Get an A/D/S 310RS.2 or 312RS.2 $150-170 for each sub but money very well spent. One of the cleanest/Best SQ subs on the market period.

if you can get the a/d/r go for it, they have really good SQ. but check the specs. i don't know how much power each can handle, but i'd guess the comp vr's can handle the most power, and a/d/s probably the least.

well damn, when Im about to race my passangers get worried, i used to have a history of kicking them out just joking.
another thing to remember is that the extra weight in the back can help your handling. i think Matt93SE taught me that one.
