Does the '99 Midlevel HU have more power than the '98
I heard & read somewhere that the '99 HU for the midlevel CD/Cassette (besides having a new faceplate) has more power & produces better sound than the '98 HU...

1) Is that true?
2) Can I swap the current '98 HU for a '99 if the '99 midlevel HU is better than the '98?

J/K. You might as well get an aftermarket, unless stock is what you prefer.
Every year, car manufacturers upgrade the audio (in most cases).
