Using LEDs

I've never done anything like this, so I'm looking for a little advice...

I'm about to start the electrical part of my NOS install, and what I'd like is to install 2 (or 3) small LEDs somewhere in my dash to indicate when the system is armed and when my bottle heater is on. Now, the wiring for this is easy, as I know where to get my inputs for the bulbs, but is there anything special that I need to know?

I think I've read somewhere that resistors would be needed inline before the LED.

Any advice?

if you scroll to step 7 of http://www.z3d.com/maxima/blueclimate.html there's info on figuring that out.

Cool, very helpful.

In step 7 its mentioned that he measured his LEDs as using 4v. Is that a standard number, or are all different.

I think it should say on the package for the LEDs. This may be wrong, but I think the blue LEDs are still mostly up in the 4 volt range (i think other colors like red and yellow might be lower).
I have a package for one of the brigher RadioShack blue LEDs, and it says 3.7v on the front.
