approx. 15watts per channel. It will handle your MTXs but as with any car. The stock radio usually only sounds good with stock speakers. Go for the new radio.

just my $.02

i have a load of audio gear i just took out of my 95 Max but i want to keep the headunit because an aftermarket unit would destroy the center console. but i do have a Pioneer 7300 w/ 3-4volt preamps.and to add to that matter i would lose the steering wheel contols.

There are adaptors made nowadays to be able to keep the steering controls.

I could definitely hear the difference just swapping out the speakers. 15w may not sound like much, but given some aftermarket headunits are within the same range it's still good enough.

I've never had the reason to turn the volume up higher than the 12 setting. Most of the times it's in 8 or 7 and at those volume's there's harldy any distortion.
