How much should I sell my Bose system for?
How much should I sell my Bose system for?
I'm replacing the entire system in my 95 SE and I have a guy who wants to buy my Bose. How much should I sell it to him for. The only problem with the Bose is that while playing a CD it will stop for a milisecond and then pick back up and the guy that wants to buy it is aware of this problem. So, how much should I ask for it?

Hey, he offered. He got all excited when he found out I was taking it out. I'm thinking to myself "why do you think I'm getting rid of this POS?" I think I'll tell him $150 and see what he thinks. Heck, a complete system, speakers and all for $150? Sheit, I think he'll go for it. Thanks, guys.

He is aware that each speaker in that set has its own amplifier/active EQ with it, right? With that in mind, I'm not sure if you'd have to install each speaker with its own little magical black box just as they were in the Maxima originally....using the Bose head unit, I would think that would be the only way it'd really work.
Isn't it 6 speakers with the tweeters included?
Seriously though, if he is getting all 4 speakers and a deck I would say 100 bucks..

Yea, that's what I was thinking above. Even if just installing the head unit & bose speakers worked at all, I'd imagine it would sound pretty poor without the amps/active eqs for each speaker. I'm not 100% on the ways the Bose systems in the past worked (as in, the systems with the amp/active eq for each speaker). I dunno if the tweets have their own amps/eq unit like the other 4 speakers.
Fitting is a good question too. I'd get out the measuring tape and see. I'm not sure the whole head unit is the exact standard size of a double-DIN deck....if it is, and the 2000 Max has the same standard double-DIN deck size, then I'd think it'd fit.
Working with Bose stereos is a pain.

So what you're saying is that it's more than just taking out the speakers. So where are the amps at? I just assumed they were attached to each speaker in some way, but to be honest I have never looked that close. I was planning on selling him the amps also cause I'm getting new amps with the new system. I did talk to the guy who will be installing the new stuff and he said that the guy would have to do some additional wiring for the Bose speakers/amps. So, it looks like I may have to pay someone to take it

Its one of those things where people are trying to secure a piece of the market I guess, you can only use BOSE with BOSE....
The only way to really make any money off of the BOSE is to part it out to people on here who need replacement speakers....
The amps and active equalizer equipment are housed in the little black boxes located near the speakers, I'm assuming. I haven't taken a look at how they're wired. If you take a look in the pic here (thanks to Dereck W):

I think the magical black box on the left of the speaker is the housing for everything thats needed for the front speakers. On the rears, the black boxes are visible from the trunk, they just poke out under the speaker pods. I don't know if you dismount these boxes, and disconnect the wiring, if you can install them/re-wire them the same in a non-bose max without much hard work or not. Looks like they'd just screw out, but wiring might be a nightmare.
Anyone else around know more?

BOSE IS A PAIN. It is really difficult to work with when talking about aftermarket. I found out the hard way when wanting to add subs and an amp to my bose system, no no. I only wanted a little more bass so I ran subs off my stock bose deck and had to buy some additional wiring to make it work. For a while, I ran subs with the BOSE speakers still self amped and basically the whole bose system, only with subs. It didn't hold up long. The amp for my rear right speaker fried, so that speaker didn't work. When I finally went in to Ultimate Electronics to see if I could get a small amp for that one speaker, they didn't have one. So the install guy gave me a few options and I ended up getting a free 300 dollar deck and some Infinity 6 1/2's for my front speakers (free). Then they took the amps off the rear BOSE speakers and ran all 4 speakers off my deck. My tweeters worked still and everything, it sounds real good. So basically I still have 2 of the BOSE speakers in my car but they don't function like they did when I had the BOSE system. They don't have that thumpy distorted sound to them anymore. Sorry for the long post, just thought I'd share how I defeated BOSE
