When using a Capacitor--->>
Ideally, you should get a birth sheet or bench test for the amp so that you know exactly how much it is really putting out (the manufacturer's specs are probably underrated or overrated). Then you would get 1 farad for every 1000 watts.
I agree with Micah, check the specs on how much power you are really pushing. Remember 1 farad is good for 1,000watts, in my mind that is complete bull****. If you chop the caps open, they are only half full. In reality they are more like a .5 farad. If you are running 1,000 watss, use a 1.5 farad. When i was pushing over 2500 watts in my Maxima i was running four 1 farad caps adn they didnt help dimming much either. Remember to charge the cap before you use it.
Ok, I only run 550 RMS --->>
with my Fosgate Amps nothing huge.. so should I get 1/2 Farad or 1??

For 550rms i would just stick to a 1 farad. LIke Micah said, for other amps, a cap isnt required due to the fact they dont drain like sub amp. Good luck. As far as brand. go Stinger, PG, or Lightning Audio. Lightning Audio is the best but also most expensive. When i work at my shop, i got mine for $70 each for 1 farad. Expect them to be anywhere from 90-160 for a 1 farad.
I use the 250a RF -->>
So my cap should be after my power distribution block going toward my Sub Amp not before for both amps.. I bought a RF 1/2 Farad Cap while I was in ATL a few months ago I notice Synki didn't mention that brand is it cheap??

Another thing to remember about Caps is that as they age their ability to store electricity diminishes. So if you get a 1 farad cap it will last longer than a 1/2 farad cap. But on the other hand you may be in the market for a whole system upgrade by the time it degrades ot that point.
