SOLOBARIC or JL .. Can't decide help!

Prices for these two guys aren't too different.. I can either get Kicker solobaric L5 12", or JL 12W3 for around $150.. Any suggestions? I've heard 12W3 before but I've never heard solobarics. Yet, many say solobaric is a monster. What do you guys prefer?

Get the Solobarics...they are unlike anything else out there, with the square shape. It's space-efficient, and they pound! Out of the big mainstream brands, Rockford Fosgate Power HX2's are my favorite.

Do you think jbl 600.1 can handel solobaric L5? Or should I get a higher wattage amp... Or is JBL 1200.1 is too much for L5? I would like to get a decent priced amp for L5 but seems like my budget can only handle either JBL amps or Cadence amps, both priced less then $300

I think solobarics are awesome my friend has owned about 8 of them in the last year.. go to spl competitions everyone is switch to solo barics, they cant be beat when it comes ground pounding bass. My one 10inch L7 beat 2 15 inch strokers that hit 138 db's

Re: Re: SOLOBARIC or JL .. Can't decide help!

What would be a decent priced amp that supports 750watt solobaric L7? I found cadence amp z9000 at 800watts for under $300, but I'm assuming theres a reason for that price.. However, no one seems to burn cadence, but I would like to hear some opinions before I write a check..

And who are the right people? So, if you blow a sub you can send it right back to Kicker? All is tracked by serial numbers, so Kicker ultimately knows where it started from....If it turns out that it was sold online and they know this then you are beat. Another case could be recieveing b-stock (refurb), grey market or even not genuine equipment (yes it does happen). Also keep in mind an Authorized reseller of a product does not automatically make that reseller and authorized internet reseller. Forgive me for my opinions , but i believe believe in knowing where your product is coming from instead of blindly taking chances to save a few bucks.

Im not aiming this directly at online stores , but rather personal sellers on Ebay. On occassion online stores receive their products "sideways" so to speak. Meaning they are not authorized, but are still able to get the product. I often shop online stores to compare prices for my customers. I found quite a few little tricks that they use...You have to pay for a warranty, they are the only ones that will warranty the product, outragous shipping costs to make up for the low priced sale, etc...I do not think this of all online stores but there are alot. Another problem is that the manufacturers may not update their sites frequently enough, so you do not know who is/isnt authorized.

This is all just my $.02

If you damage a kicker product and it wasn't purchased from an authorized kicker dealer the warranty doesn't apply. Go to kickers website, there is a link to check for authorized dealers, put in the name of the dealer or the website selling the product and it'll come back letting you know if they're authorized.

One solobaric s12l7 msrp from an authorized dealer is $349.99 plus shipping is probably $370.00. I got 2 shipped for $400. If I ever blow a sub I can just buy a new one. Why would I pay double the price for a warranty? That's just my $.02

Ok but here an example.....you blow both your subs that you paid $800 for, now you spend another $800.OR you buy them from an Authorized dealer at $700 and buy them once! Also where you got yours from are you sure it is Genuine Kicker equipment? Yes there is a such thing as fakes!! BTW you would not be able to tell by looking at it.

Thats my $.02

Are you telling me that I'm going to blow all four of my subs and pay $800. I got them for $200 a piece. I got it installed by an authorized kicker dealer and they seem to be loud to me. I got it in a kicker cardboard box along with warrranty papers and I checked the serial numbers to make sure they weren't refurbished. Who would want to pay $700 for 2 speakers?

That is not what I said. What I said was if they are not bought from an Authorized dealer and you paid $400 for the pair and then you blow 2 then you will be paying an additional $400 for 2 more.Ultimately equaling $800. Whereas buying from an Authorized location, yes you spend $700 the first time, but if they blow you will not spend any additional money.I also never said refurb. although that has been the case is some situations. I said genuine. Meaning they can (not that yours are, but some can) be fake. Believe it or not there are copies of ALOT of major brands.

Just to clarify the statement you've made above......If you read the warranty claim closely, you will see that all warranties only cover manufacture defects and workmanship. They do not apply to items that have been damaged/short-circuited due to installation errors, abused, dropped, mishandled, altered or physically broken.

2 "12 Solobaric L7's vs. 1 10" JL Audio w7

I recently went to Tweeter to pick out some subs for my '96 Max. The head car stereo gujy there who had been working at that patricular store for 8 years explained to me that 1 10" W7 in the special JL Audio red and black box with the JL Audio 500 series amp. could easily take out 2 "12 Solobaric L7s. According to him, if the JL sub in it's special box was matched with the new JL 500 watt series amp, it could pound louder and fulller than 2 Solo L7's. Does this seem accurate? He seemed to know what he was talking about; or do you think he was just trying to sell me the products?

he was trying to sell the product. try comparing that jl combo, to 2 12" L7's in a 4-5 cubic foot box vented to 40hz with about 1500 wrms on them.

a 600.1 is good for a single L5, a 1200.1 is overkill

Why does it seem that everyone is trying to bash Don about his statement. I haven't bought anything from Don, nor due i know him. But his words are true. He should know!! Don't get me wrong, i am not saying you should pay full price at the car audio shop. I have bought a lot of audio stuff from the internet over the past few years. I have had very good luck but, there is always that chance of something breaking and you getting stiffed.
Ike sound gives you a one year warranty through them. Which gives you a good price and a little peace of mind but, you still never know what your getting in return.

Craig

A 600.1 would be perfect for a L5!

your better of getting 2 10" L7's instead of 1 12" L5. make sure you get each woofer in 4ohms, so you could drop it to 2ohms.

also you should get a good amp. the best box for the solo's is ported.

You can go to Ikesound and get an L7 for $199 S& H included. Here is the link.

I have bought things from Ikesound in the past. When something messed up, he sent me a new one and I returned the messed up item in the same box. I did not have to bother with the warranty. He did it. Now granted, this might not be entirely on the up and up, but I didn't care at the time.
