antenna mast wont go all the way up

ok, my antenna mast recently broke so i got another one from the dealer for about 40 bucks. i opened the antenna nut and i pulled out the old mast(by turning on the radio) then i put in the new antenna and turned the radio off, and the motor sucked it in. now here is the problem... when i turn on the radio the antenna goes most of the way up, but it gets stuck about 7/8 of the way, where i start hearing noises from the motor. When i manually pull it up from there and then turn off the radio, the motor wont suck it back in. is it possible that the antenna rope is too short? (the mast said altima on the packaging, but they told me it was the same thing for the max)

sometimes my antenna doesnt go all the way up (on rare occasions it doesnt go all the way down)...anyway when it happens and im not too lazy to fix it, i just pull it up and down manually a few times, then check it and it almost always works perfectly. dunno if you've already tried that, just a suggestion

You should first try to lube the mast with something and see if that helps. Try a search because when my antenna broke I searched and found a lot of info.
