Is it possible to mount amps on the trunklid?

I just thought of this idea for my system, and I was wondering if it was possible. I'm going to have 2 12" JL Audio W3 subwoofers with a JL Audio 500/1 Amp and a JL Audio 300/4 Amp in the trunk. Do you think I could mount the 500/1 and 300/4 on the trunklid? It would help conserve space in the trunk in case I need to put something in there.

I don't want to damage the amps though by closing the trunk, and I don't want to damage the trunk by having too much weight on it. What do you guys think? Is this possible to do?

Thanks,
-Nick

I would not reccomend this. It could be damaging to the amps because of teh unsecure hold they will have. They will be very bouncy, and your subs wont help with the vibration. I mounted mine behind the passenger seat. It looks great, and they fit and hold perfect. No room taken up either.

OK guys. Thanks for your help. It was just a thought that I had. I'm probably going to mount them on the back of the backseat on either side of the trunk pass through.

Thanks,
-Nick

Re: Is it possible to mount amps on the trunklid?

I wouldn't mount them on the trunklid, as everytime you open the trunk you'd be pulling the wiring. I mounted one of my amps on the underside of the trunk, right before the trunk light. The amp stays there pretty nicely, but there are two drawbacks. The first is heat. If you have an amp that will easily overheat you should not do this. The heat simply has nowhere to go. I have a JBL amp and it is solid as a rock and has yet to overheat. The second drawback is that you will block your trunk light. You can still see inside but the light will not be as bright. I do plan on moving my amps though as it doesn't look as good as say mounting them to the seats like others have suggested.

Yes it is possible, it has been done too...It takes alot of modifying to make the lid solid, then it ends up heavy and acuaters get used to help hold it up in a solid way.

It is definately possible. I have done this ONCE before. Unless you are going ALL OUT on doing your system I would advise against. Reason being....it is not a a "spur of the moment" kind of job. You will need alot of time, patience, materials, and of course knowledge to this correct. Like I said in the begining though, it is definately possible.
