You could get that at Crutchfield or Parts express but the shipping charges will probably bring it up higher than the local shop prices. Find a place that isn't a big chain and get a salesman who isn't the newest person in the store. They should be able to sell it for less. I normally try to talk to the owner or manager when there aren't a lot of other customers around. I think they are more likely to work a deal then especially if they think you may be in the market for more equipment.

I had this question also. . . What guage wire does everyone run in their car? My installers ran 8 Guage wire for each of my amps. and I thought they knew what they were doing. The other day I went to another place that sold PPI and the were concerned about the 8 Guage wire being used thinking that PPI would probablt recommend 4 Guage for the length the wire was run. Should I be concerned about this?

I run 4 ga. in my car for my 2 amps...

But only because each amp, has to be wired up like 2 amps. There are 2 pos. connections and 2 ground for each amp.

Okay guys I have tried to recreate the wire chart from the MECP study guide:

Iasca’s recommended minimum wire gauge size*

Wire Length
Total Amperage Up to 4 to 7 to 10 to 13 to 16 to 19 to
Draw of System 4 ft 7 ft 10 ft 13 ft 16 ft 19 ft 22 ft
0-20 14 12 12 10 10 8 8
20-35 12 10 8 8 6 6 6
35-50 10 8 8 6 4 4 4
50-65 8 8 6 4 4 4 4
65-85 6 6 4 4 2 2 2
85-105 6 6 4 2 2 2 2
105-125 4 4 4 2 0 0 0
125-150 2 2 2 0 0 0 0

* From the MECP study guide.

Dang. I guess Excel files can't be copied to the post. But I think you can make it out.

In your case, since you have 550 watts I would definetely recommend 4 guage power wire. For myself, I am running 8 guage wire because I only have a 225 watt amp and a 125 watt sub.
