Question: Subwoofer with Factory Bose

Question: Subwoofer with Factory Bose
Is it possible to add a single small subwoofer (10 inch) to the factory Bose system in a 96 without using an external amp or adapters? Would it make any difference to my bass at all? Or is an amp necessary? Thanks.

You need an external amp and adapter, because you have not pre-amp outputs. The bose amps are just for the bose speakes.

I know that the Bose doesn't have pre-amp outputs; but on ordinary sound systems, you can just splice into the speaker wires for the rear speakers and run it to the subwoofer. It won't be loud or powerful, but it'll still work. Can i do the same for my bose system?

When I said you had the right idea I ment this;
You can splice into the rear speaker wires and put an RCA adapter there to get the signal from the head unit. This will allow you to hook up an amp to the adapter then the subs to the amp. That is the only and the easiest way without replacing the factory headunit. Even if you do replace the factory headunit you have to replace every speaker too.
It sound like you just want to hook up a sub and nothing else, sorry no amp and adapter no go.

You can however add an amp with speaker level inputs so you wont need any adapters. This is what I did and it sounded reasonable...I actually might have a JBL 300.1 with speaker level inputs FS in the Audio/Video FS forum.
