help!!! is this stuff good?
i am getting a different stero system in my car, but money is kinda tight w/ college. is this a good low cost set up? if not what do you suggest? single din pionner h.u., pionner 6by9s, pionner 3/4" tweets, infinity, polk, or kicker impulse 4by6 or 4", pionner 10s in a ported box, 200 watt amp(for subs, rest powered by head unit) would this sound good? if not what do you suggest. i like pioneer cause they have good sound quality, which is what i want. thanks!
Everything is all personal preference. We can only make sugguestions. Let your ear do the deciding. As far as brands, take a peek at the Sony X-plods, Infinity Kappas, Kenwood eXcelons, Polk, MB Quart, JL Audio. The kenwood HU's should be plenty if your on a tight budget. If you want to save money, look at the RF's on sale, buy two 10's for like $89 or so? They will produce enough bass but not break the bank.

On a budget, I think you would be better served to build a system over time. If you buy mediocre parts you probably will become dissatisfied over time. Take it from someone who has too much car stereo stuff on the shelf in the shop.
I would start with a good head unit and some good 6.5 componants or coaxes in the doors. Pioneer, Kenwood Excelon, Clarion, all make good head unit at a reasonable price. Get on that has at least two sets of 4 Volt pre outs. For speakers I would go with a company that specializes in speakers. Boston Accoustics, Polk, a/d/s, JL Audio all make high quality speaker, and I have had good results with them. Listen to different speakers, and see what sound appeals to you.

I've got an Alpine MP3 HU and I love it.
I don't use an external amp and the sound quality and volume are great. It cost me $400 installed (had dealer install it for warranty purposes). Seems pricy until you factor in the money I save on CD's. Also, fitting 120 songs on one CD is great for road trips. 1200 songs fit in a visor CD holder. I have Eclipse speakers front and rear and have been happy with them for the money.
I agree with amax935. Save yourself the headaches and wasted money of buying junk and having to upgrade later. Buy quality equipment the first time.
