Just purchased 99 Maxima w/BOSE...want to install my subs...HELP!

Hi, I am new to this forum and was looking for some help from you guys. I just purchased my 99 Maxima SE-L a few weeks ago and it has bose. I have a pair of 12" rockford fosgate subs and a memphis audio amp from my old car and was wondering what you guys think the best way to go about installing it would be?
I have heard many things, but i am not sure what is true and what isnt. Is it true that if I use a high/low converter that it will screw up the speakers and subs? How will it sound? Should I just save some money and buy a whole new system?
Thanks for any advice,
Dan Raia

You know what, I've been searching this whole forum to find out how that worked(using a converter to install amp + sub), and I was ready to buy sub, amp, and the CONVERTER at my audio shop today. I was talking to the guy(really liked this guy, sounded very honest, knew everything and explained it pretty well) and as soon as I mentioned I had maxima, he asked me "WITH OR WITHOUT BOSE SYSTEM?????" I assumed he installed many systems to maxima, and I told him I had one with Bose and was thinking about using a line converter from the rear speakers. He said that will definately blow up the speakers, and has seen a maxima not too long ago that was installed with the converter at that shop 2weeks ago do that.. Since then, he didn't install bose systems with converters. Either all bose gotta go, or they stick together w/o a sub.. SO, I'm stuck with heavy costs for a new HU, speakers, in addition to my sub..

That guy must be a really proffessional installer. I've had 2 12's in my car with the bose for over a year now. No explosions yet. Get the converter that plugs into the back of the head unit and lets you use rca cables. Thats what I did. I installed a switch for the amp as I didn't want it on all the time. I put the switch in the middle of the heated seats switches and used the power turn on from the lighter. Works great.

what kind(brand) of converter was it that you used? So you plugged the converter straight from the bose HU, which has rca cables right? (I'm going with this for sure now)

I don't remember the brand name of it. Some local stores supposedly carry it here, but i got mine from ampmanaudio.com. They don't carry it on the website, but they got it for me. I don't know how much it was. It definitely worked better than tapping into the rear speakers, which degraded sound quality by alot. The converter plugs into the headuinit and gives out 2 rca lines and then the stock plug plugs into the other side of the converter.

The BEST way would be to rip out the Bose and get a whole new system. If you can't afford new equipment, you'll have to use a convertor to give you the RCA out to the amp. The major downside to the convertor is the SQ. For one reason or another you won't be able to get as clean of a signal. If you can find the convertor that skeelo is talking about you might have better luck.

I agree, without the converter just tapping into the rear speakers before the bose amp totally degraded the sound quality of the interior speakers. Its either converter or new system.

I used this to add an amp and subs to my 97 max with bose.

http://www.linkmeup.com/pd2.htm

A little costly, but very pain free, works great, and made no changes to my bose.

I personally love it...

You need this adapter. It just plugs into your rear speaker harnesses and converts the signal to RCA level.

http://www.sounddomain.com/sku/PERNISSANAR95

From the site:

"This adapter allows you to retain the OEM receiver and replace the rear OEM amplifiers and speakers with aftermarket components. You can also retain the entire OEM system and use this adapter to add an amplifier to the existing system. Direct plug in adapter to replace amps or add an amplifier. Note: not for use with Nissan Quest (use FDAHW)."
