To Bose or Not to Bose

Hmmm, I am hearing bad things about the Bose if I want to mod my car at all in the audio dept, and this is certainly a need of mine. So do I get a max without the bose? I am looking to get a 2k2 SE. I just want to save some money since I am really all about customizing my sound as opposed to paying the $899 for the Bose only to have it ripped out and replaced with costly aftermarket equipment. Plus I already have an amp that I could use. Any thoughts on this, you audio gurus?

What packages do I not get if I leave out the Bose? I think the Titanium package is bundled with Bose.

Depends on what you are looking for. If you just like normal good quality sound get the bose. BUt if you want hard pounding set of alarm sound or like to upgrade a lot don't go with Bose. Why because aftermarket set up is acceptable.

I believe the Bose system in the 2K2s is a little more aftermarket-friendly than the systems in the past. Do a search on the audio forum with terms like: ' "2K2" AND "Bose" ' and see if you can find more information that way. At the least you should get a few posts, and see a few guys that know their stuff, so you'd know who to ask.

Paxus...are you getting a 2002 or 2003? The Titanium package is on 2003s.

If you don't want Bose on the 2002 SE, then you can't get:
Leather
Meridian
Side Airbags
Navigation

You're basically looking for exactly what I am...

I hate us. We can't get what we want. Nissan just bundles everything together which makes modding the car the way you want very costly. i.e. getting factory leather seats @ $1500, then getting aftermarket leather at about $1100 installed. Or getting a $900 2k2 SE Bose audio system and then wanting to overhaul the whole audio system for about $1k. That's just insane. I'm starting to dislike my options with the 2k2 maximas.

Thinking about test driving some competitors like the TL-S. See if I can get what I want over there.
