B&G or Eibach?
Sunday I autocrossed for the first time and I'm completely hooked. I had a blast and I'm going back as soon as possible. The Maxima actually handles well once it takes a set in the corners (I have only an FSTB and RSB) but my problem was all the pitching and rolling. I felt like I was racing the Titanic... I know Eibachs are generally regarded as the best-handling spring, that said, I love the look the B&G's give. Sprints are too little suspension travel (there actually are potholes in Florida) and MaxSpeeds seem like buying the store brand of a good product. I'd be pairing them with AGX or Konis, probably AGX... so which do you guys think will give better handling? I'm thinking the Eibachs since they give a little more travel and have a good firm rate. Input?
- I've got Eibachs and Koni's on my '96. The ride is fine up front, but the rear is a bit bouncy and stiff. I don't know about the B&G's, but perhaps my not knowing anything about them says enough.
- Concerning shocks... no one that I know of has ever won anything big by using AGX's. All the adjustment in the world won't make up for an inferior shock. I've been very happy with my Koni yellow's - their quality is great, the warranty is great, and they have a proven track record for winning.
- The greatest thing about lowering your car is that you will be able to remove your front sway bar. Major, major improvement in handling, especially with the RSB installed.
- Also, if you want to fix the Maxima's nasty little problem with destroying your tire's sidewalls, get camber plates. Go full negative, get some toe out at an alignment shop, and leave it like that for street and track.
- I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed your first AutoCross so much. AutoX is a really unique sport - it is always changing, always demanding, and always fun. Have fun out there!
