LSD anyone ?

Well I am looking to upgrade my tranny with a LSD unit, and currently there is nothing avalible out there for our beloved 5spds. But according to some info the 5spd tranny in the 93-01 Altimas uses the same diff as our VQ Maximas do. AND Nismo offers a upgraded LSD for these transmissions for about 800 bux- I'm sure we could get em cheaper via some kinda group deal.

Here is the kicker, we need to compare the diffs out of the Altima to the Maxima to be 100% sure that this will work. We MIGHT also need a new case half in order to accomodate the diff in our transmissions (VLSD versions of the Altima and Maxima trannies have diff tranny cases than the NON-LSD ones), but this is just speculation on my part. I have e-mailed some people who might know to see if we can clariffy anything out here. I would love to stick a Quaiffe in my Max, but since there are so little of them ever produced I do not think it will happen. So I am on a mission to find a LSD diff for our trannies.

Got ~$3k? Because that's all Quaife would need to make you a one-off, according to the last time I spoke with them...

AE LSD sucks, they wear out prematurelly and on top of that I have experienced a working VLSD in my SE-R vs new NISMO 1.5 way and the diff was quite alot.

I have quite a bit of $$$ saved up for mods etc.... just sold my restored Q45 But I am not bout to blow 3K dollars on a LSD when a Nismo one is avalible- just that I need to confirm it works.

Not that it will help yah much, but for the Auto tranny guys, when NRH builds bulletproof auto trannys they put a LSD in there. I am pretty sure I am going to get them to put an LSD in my car at some point.

It is another one of those things that if nissan hadent gone so cheap on our cars they would have put it in from the factory.

1. wtf is "squirrel tech performance suspension?"
2. Cusco makes a fsb for the Maxima?
3. "zero performance" camber plates?
4. Why would you want different camber on driver and passenger sides unless you're running on an oval track?

not hating....just asking due to pique of interest.

refering to axles... Altima < Maxima. The Altima axle/spline are smaller diameter. 2 or 3 years ago, we (1st and 2nd gen Altimas) contacted Quaife to see if they could modify their Maxima LSD to fit Altimas. Quaife replied saying no, the differentials were different.... which would require some R&D for the Altimas to make it happen. Altimas forum couldn't pull it together like maxima.org to get 30+ people to deposit $.

Ok, found one of the threads. Read up: http://www.nissanclub.com/forums/gen...sd-quaife.html

If you guys at that desperate to get a good LSD (VLSD is crap), why don't you look into a 6-speed swap? Some come with HLSD (helical is way better, I rather have gears controlling the slip than a fluid) and the gearing of the 6-speed is closer and better. The gears are much stronger too, no more "grinding third" like the maxima 5-speed, and you've got a 6th speed for gas mileage.

If you're really nuts, get a 2002 spec V 6-speed tranny and buy a VQ bellhousing from the dealer. The '02's came with a 4.42 final drive ratio

I bet that thing SCREWS with a 4.42 final drive ratio. It would at least be very quick

The 3.0 would like the ridiculous gearing just as much as the 3.5. I'm surprised nobody has done this yet in a hardcore N/A max.

If you can't find a parts car that has EVERYTHING, the 6-speed conversion/swap isn't cheap by any means. I think that's pretty much why...
