First time auto-x

what a blast. i shouldn't have waited so long to go to one, but my friend finally convinced me to go!

i got four runs in, plus an extra one that i didn't get timed for (mixup in the lineup..) super gay, because i did pretty well on my fifth run.

run 2: http://s68.photobucket.com/albums/i1...t=HPIM0412.flv

run 4: http://s68.photobucket.com/albums/i1...t=HPIM0418.flv

run 5: (got messed up because i left before my friend could press record) http://s68.photobucket.com/albums/i1...t=HPIM0419.flv

this is definitely going to be my new hobby!

whoever designed that course needs to be fired. VERY unsafe having workers that close to the course, especially in the rain.
I also see several lightpoles that shouldn't be on line at the of braking zones.

that's the whole point of autocross....prepare what car you want. Otherwise every event would just be 100 Miatas, and what fun would that be?

Trust me, when STU STi's or DSP Civic SI's or E46 M3s lost to me on occasion, they didn't think it was all that funny....

Elitist garbage. Go to any track and you'll see alot more Rotas than whatever "JDM" wheel it is you're rolling on....although judging by your sig mod list, you're rolling on stockers. You spend your money on some $2000 Volks or Prodrives or whatever, I'll stick with my $500 set of 16lb SDRs that have been bulletproof.

^^ what he said. I would not be particularly interested in driving or working that course. Suggest you find a club that knows what they're doing!

Glad you had fun. Running in the rain is great practice starting out. Shows the limits of our cars right away whereas dry tracks & race rubber hide mistakes.

say what you want. i still think its funny seeing maximas autoX'n, especially 4th gens and older. doing it for fun is understandable, but trying to go all out with it in a maxima is hilarious to me

i actually have to agree with you. Last time i went to one a guy that drives a
JCW cooper designed the course. Of course i was able to hit 2 pilons at once. haha
I prefer road courses too as i focus more on driving then what pilon should i go around next.

Agreed, but not everyone can afford track time. All things considered you're looking at about a grand per event unless the track is local to you or you camp.

Auto-x is cheap fun if you can't afford to attend HPDE. It is much more fun than auto-x though.

I agree that the workers are placed in really stupid locations....right in the line of sight of the driver.

But the workers are ALWAYS within several feet of the course, rain or shine.

Yes a grand, if you're including a new set of r-comps for each weekend. And that's something only the most serious racers will do.

If you're smart and run street tires, I'd estimate track time with an instructor runs $200-250/day.

i went my first time last weekend. i ran in the Novice G-Stock (NGS) class, and came in 6th place. I didn't know all novices are running against each other, lawl i was up against corvettes and shyt.

when i leave the novice class, what class should i run? GS? i have street tires, so i could run TGS, but i would be up against all cars with street tires.

btw, if NGS was a class, i still would have lost to the wolfsberg jetta and eclipse.

Uhm.... I lost to a 1980 Mercedes Benz Diesel Wagon, a 1989 Chevy Malibu, and many corolla's (One was even a CE, not even the S!!), I learned that day that AutoX for the most part is all driver, maybe the top 10% is affected by the actual car and not just driver.

I did beat a S2k though , but it was scary having all of the novices in one pass.

For your first year just focus on improving skills. You'll get too frustrated trying to win against veteran drivers. That said, congrats placing mid-back in the novices your first time and taking down that other Vette and 944.

They don't have a lot of Auto-X in my area (at least I haven't seen any) ... though I'm not sure I could follow that type of 'cone course' - However, I think I'd rather do roadcourse racing, and only seems to down in Sebring ... too much Nascar and Drag Racing down here.

Hundreds of drivers would love to live where you are near Orlando. You've got 3 sites only 30min away!

I was just there for my bday and missed Brooksville by a few days. The courses become easier to follow after a few tries.
