When I used to work at the track and the douchebags like that would hassle the head instructor, he'd tell the guy to do a check ride with me. He'd grid the guy behind my car and if they could keep up to my Maxima, they would be let into the next run group.
90% of 'em failed to keep up.

Funny thing is almost at every HPDE in the Northeast there is always one of these guys around. They are usually wealthy and arrogant with a very fast car without much driving skill. Even worse are the ones who have stretched their budget buying the car and cannot afford to fix the car if it breaks or don’t know how to fix it so they baby the car. Now there is nothing wrong with going slow just be mindful of the people stuck behind you, but they generally don’t give point bys to inferior cars especially the Maxima.

I've almost gotten into accidents with some of these drivers. When I am in a good track rhythm and moving quickly I will look ahead and see these dorks in their high end cars. Cars usually of the German or Italian performance persuasion, so that I expect that car to be driving fast or to get a point by; neither of which happens. Back in September I almost slammed into the back of a brand new M3 coupe cause the driver was moving so slowly. I could not believe all his braking points where more than double mine. Miscalculating his lack of skill I was in my rhythm and this guy hit the brakes hard very early before the turn I had to lock my brakes to not hit him.

Later on in the classroom when the instructor told everyone to give point bys he sat there and said nothing. Sure as hell he didn’t listen and this car was a problem car for the rest of the event.

I learned just to avoid these guys and pit to give them a half lap lead then head back out to enjoy the beauty of an open track.

The really slow ones I can pass going down pit lane at TWS...

Most of the issues here are the guys in Vettes, but there are problem drivers from every make and model.

You can also throw broken pieces of connecting rod and engine block at them as well.

I recall riding shotgun with an instructor driving a Miata back in '05 at TWS and you flew by us in your Maxima. Then a few laps later your engine went.

That was the first and possibly the best HPDE I ever attended and I squarely put the blame on you for my road course addiction.

Vettes are good up here, well the ones I have seen. They are either scary fast and blow past my car on the straights or they are driven slow and point me by. There was one badly skilled C6 Vette driver that didn't want me to catch up and started to drive more aggresive when I was approaching. He ended up going from 4th to stuffing it into 2nd and over reved the crap out of his car, it sounded so awful with a big cloud of smoke out of the exhaust. Luckily he did not damage anything but pitted to make sure his car was ok.

Yeah, that engine was just waiting to blow. Did you ever see the failure point? A rod bolt came loose and was laying in the bottom of the oil pan (what was left of it). The bolt was bent where it came halfway out of the rod and then was bent against the side by the block. the nut was laying in the bottom of the pan with all threads intact. so it's just a combination of 220k miles of hard driving and 7000rpm rev limit. kablooey.

So I rebuilt the engine and haven't taken it back to the track since. I should put it back together and take it back to the track just for grins. See how it compares to my 240 again.

We have a mixture of Vettes here- Vipers are the same way. There's a lot of GOOD drivers, but then there's a group of crapola drivers that act exactly like the video... most of them are in their 50s and 60s though. depth perception is going so they brake WAY early, and they don't have the ballz to push the car through the corners. and evidently they can't see out their mirrors anymore cause they never look.

Usually what I'll do is follow them for about a lap pulling up inside them from apex to track out- then they mash the gas and leave me behind... usually they figure it out and will let me by after a corner or two of that, but some don't. 1 session of driving like that and they're either moved down a class or sent out with an instructor to yell at them when people come up behind and don't get the point-by.

those guys are my favorite guys at track days. they have 100+ HP on you, a car that should eat yours alive in handling too, and yet you eat them up, pass them, and then lose them behind you all in half a lap.

fixed. It reminds me of the two Porsche GT2s that have been in my class at autocrosses this year, neither of which were within a second of my time.....
