track days in Gainesville FL
There is a local group here in Gainesville that organize monthly track events. The event is open lapping with no passing. There are places for slower car to pull in and let faster cars go by. We were running a half day event for up to 20 cars last year. We want to run a full day now for up to 40 cars. One of the last 1/2 day events I put 53 miles on my car running laps, so you can get decent seat time. Projected cost is $100 in advance additional charge day of the event if there is room. You won't find a better event for the money.
Here's the track
Here is a few laps using one configuration, search around if you want to see more. There are quite a few videos there because it's truly a drivers training/test facility.

(I picked the video because the driver is pushing a bit)
a few other good videos

It's located at http://www.gainesvilleraceway.com/ home of the Gator Nationals. The test track is used by everyone from Police and security companys to Porsche and BMW. The SCCA has used the location for autoX and solo trials, the Florida state championship autoX was held there last month. There is another track near by that we want to run some event at as well.... http://www.gorally.com/erssite/html/venue.html

Sorry I had the wrong link in my copy and paste. 1/08/11 and then 2/05/11 are the next two events. Here is the site to check for dates and sign up for events.

The event on the 8th is in limbo at the moment, the guys running the event will be at a 24hr of Lemons race the weekend before. Really depends on how many people sign up in the next week or so.
Normally there will be an event every month.
I fixed the link in the first post.

Well the weather was perfect and the turn out was low for the event. I filled my new GoPros SD car, killed a tire and burned a tank of fuel. I did not look at my trip odo before the event but I got an easy hour and a half of track time. Could have had more but enjoyed hanging around with the guys during the event. I posted some of the raw footage on YouTube (720HD) I'll condense and mix up some of the footage, mabey this weekend.

I don't think I can make the feb5th one. Car isn't ready. Still tuning under boost; getting a new cat and muffler soon so I am sure I will have to retune.
Any other events later on?

Helmets can be found at most motorcycle shops and some parts stores. DOT is fine for Gainesville but won't work at larger tracks. I picked up a Snell M open face from PepBoys a few years ago for like $50 IIRC. If you think you are going to do larger tracks HPDEs you might be better off to invest in a Snell SA helmet. SCCA requires Snell for their events the M works for autoX but SA is required for wheel to wheel and larger track time trials.

I doubt I will be able to do any big tracks anytime soon so I will prob just buy a DOT or Snell M helmet.
****ing wideband just died so I have to buy a new o2 sensor for it, hopefully car is ready in mid feb

Now many of the driving clubs up in NE require SA2005 or newer helmets, no excuses. That and M or Dot rated helmets are no longer allowed, from what I was told it was the insurance won't cover the driving clubs unless everyone uses SA rated helmets.

97SEdriver I'm not sure when they built the track, but I've been running at events there since 2000.
Track day turned out nice today. Morning rains and cool temps kept things alittle slick but still lots of fun. My car was down due to tires I corded at the last event. I did get to turn a few laps in my friends S2000 powered Miata. I was checking out another drivers 71 BMW 2002 when I looked up and saw Randy Pobst checking out the same car. Nice guy, he was there with one of his friends driving a Porsche. he turned some laps in the Porsche helping his friend with setup. He was also nice enough to take the Miata around for some laps and offer his setup opinion on that car as well.
Cars are the great equalizer, you never know who you will meet at a track event.
