Buying & Selling online.

I just want to share f couple of points when buying and selling online. I've been dealing with online buyers for almost 20 years. These points come in handy for both Canadian and American sellers & buyers.

RULE #1 - Pictures
If you're selling something, post pictures. If you want to buy something, ask for a picture. Pictures say a 1000 words about the quality of the item you're selling and prove that it's the right part. (i.e. one hole ignition coils vs two hole). If you're buying, it proves they have it.

Rule #2 - Give feedback
Leave feedback here for stuff bought AND sold. Someone buys something, pays quickly, post it here. If they sell something, post it here. If it goes sour, post it HERE.

Rule #3 - Ship it as a trackable package
Use USPS or Canada Post and pay for the extra insurance and tracking via Priority or Global Express shipments. It's worth the coin for the faster, tracked, deliveries. Don't mail anything ground-standard. Especially cross-border, it'll take weeks to get across. You can then track the item online.

Rule #3 - Don't ship Ground UPS/FedEX
If you're Canadian or an American doing a cross-border buy, use USPS Global Priority for shipping. DO NOT SHIP UPS OR FEDEX GROUND. Brokerage fees will cost up to $50. Did I say not to use UPS Ground Cross-Border?

Rule #4 - Spending more then $100? Find out the name of the person you're buying from
Something that is provable. Most scam artists use fake names that you can't find on the internet. Mine is. Heck, it's easy as pie to find. Ask them to email you a payPal invoice. I got one from a guy who's email name was different than his paypal one.

Rule #5 - If you're scammed, report it here, then here...
If you suspect fraud, in Canada, file with RECA: http://www.recol.ca , in the USA, file with http://www.ifccfbi.gov/index.asp. FILE IMMEDIATELY. DON'T WAIT WEEKS. Use this forum topic to track the person down, find out their names

Rule #6 - Caveat Emptor!
If someone is selling you a 5 speed tranny for $100, shipped, cause you asked for it, you truely are asking for it...

Rule #7 - Search the seller on MAXIMA.ORG
Put their name in the search engine and see what they're up to. If they've appeared out of no where selling stuff, the odd topic, chances are they've changed their ID as a former scammer.

Rule #8 - Before you post FORKSTER RIPPED ME OFF...
Make sure it's fraud and not post here that so-and-so ripped me off when the parcel arrives in the mail that afternoon - all nice-and-perfect...just a little late. It's happened, but make sure your right about the fraud/bad-seller posting.

Rule #9 -ESCROW service
Buying something big or expensive? Use an Escrow service to act as a 'holder' to inspect the goods. Good info here: http://www.nclnet.org/shoppingonline/escrowtips.htm and http://www.escrow.com.

Rule #10 - I'M smart... S M R T
I've seen the odd posting in here about so-and-so ripped me off or parts-not-working. If you're buying electrical stuff - work out the details. I.e. if it get's here, and it doesn't work, I'll send it back - cash back first. Or, DON'T LET YOUR BUDDIES USE YOUR NAME TO SELL STUFF. It's you're online ID, it's your reputation. The bottom line is that if you've followed #1-9, your a smart buyer.

That's all for now...!
