ebay will not help you, they dont handle transactions, thats between you and the service the seller has chosen. Money orders can be traced supposedly but not something I would take a chance with.

I use postal money orders and If there is a problem, the post office will get your money back. Thats what they always tell me, but I've never had any problems with them.

Money orders are risky. I use paypal for every thing I buy on ebay. If you are not in rush ask the seller if he will accept a personal check and hold the item till it clears. If you have to send a money order make sure the sellers name is on it so if it gets lost in the mail or stolen nobody else can use it. In the future use pay pal. It is free for the buyer and much more secure and faster.

Once the person gets the check cashed, it's just like cashing the money order. He would not have any recourse in getting his money back. At least with PayPal, you have a way of getting your money back if the deal falls through.

Money orders are like mailing cash... once it's in the mail, it's gone.

Best way is to use a credit card belive it or not, especiallly with paypal.

If you tell a credit card company you never got the stuff they will take it right off your bill.

But i have paid with money order a while back, and as long as the person had good feedback you should be ok.

I ask for money orders to make sure I get my money. I've been burned in the past. I'm also trustworthy.

Most of the world is not though.

I like paypal and money orders. But I always prefer dealing with that person in person and avoiding shipping and mailing money in the first place.

Do NOT pay for anything on e-Bay with a money order. I don't care what anyone says, if they only accept money orders I will not buy it. My aunt recently paid for a $500 item on e-Bay with a postal money order and the seller took it and left. He hijacked an account with perfect feedback and did this - made a pretty penny too. She got ZERO of that money back. Always protect yourself when paying for items online.

Charliekilo3,

Acutally money orders unless they are USPS ones are treated like checks and must clear before the money hits your account. The manager at my bank has seen MOs that have been bad. The only money order that is treated like cash when you deposit it to your account is ones from the post office.

Still and all Paypal is the best thing. For buyers anyway since it's free and fast. USE IT!!

Which is still no better than paying with a check. All I was saying is that the seller could cash the check or money order and take the money and run. You could not get your money back either way with those two methods of payment.

Yeah.. I guess I'm not gonna get it then.. because he doesn't accept paypal... his account seems fair... he has a 90% feedback rating but only has like 30 feedbacks in total...

So even if I use a money order from USPS there is no guarentee that I will get my money back if the dealer runs.... kinda sucks because I really wanted these items!

Ask him if he will accept Paypal if you cover his fees. Many sellers do not like Paypal for larger transactions because they lose a decent amount of money to fees - plus Paypal screws sellers over all day long, but that is another thread...

He is not going to take your money and run. If his feedback rating is solid he is a good seller. Your issue is if your MO gets lost in the mail. Your basically screwed. It's your choice. I would still ask him if he will take a check and hold your item till it clears. At most 10 Biz days. If you want the stuff that bad ask him. Or send him a MO

Well i thought MO's are okay to use since that I have the reciept and it can tell me where the money is cashed from... (wouldn't it)... so basically I'm jus wondering if MO's are ok to use to pay an item on e-bay... again.. his feeback is fair.. 88% to be exact... I'm jus worried because this is a GOOD amount of money...

from my experience, i had one bad buyer who wouldnt send me something, and then i traced all his info, and basically he signed it, and cashed it, and it was through usps, so basically all and all, i only do either money orders or cashiers checks and never ever had a problem besides that one little incident

how is his feedback rating? if he is 98.5% or better, I wouldn't worry to much about it.

88% holy shit! you're in for a rough ride! hope it goes well, and remember if you get screwed and leave him a negative feedback, chances are he'll leave you a negative feedback too. Then you'll have that mark on your ID...

I don't deal with people below 98.5% for this reason, I want NO part of a bad deal, not only do you get a bad deal, your feedback gets screwed up too, even when it's not your fault.

keep in mind those are good only in the United States. I was trying to buy som NX seat rails for my SE-R from a guy in Canada (would lower my seat about 1 inch) and I sent him a post office money order..

It couldn't be cashed over there, come to find out, they are only good in the USA.

Money orders are a hell of a lot safer than paypal. If you don't get the product you bought.... it's mail fraud. With paypal you're SOL. I think paypal now offers somekind of protection these days, but I was ripped off using paypal a while back. I couldn't ifnd many people to help me, but I could have contacted the law if I had mailed it.

Only USPS MO's are somewhat safer. The rest are garbo.
