Are your dealerships parts departments like this?

My local Nissan Dealership has never let me down but every time I want a part from there it is this big drawn out process. I like Nissan because the dealer parts are reasonably priced and it's better than dealing with autozone. but it is almost like an inconvenience for them to get me a part.

1. Does your dealership let you order parts over the phone?
I have to call them they tell me they don't have it so I have to go in pay for it and go back and pick it up later.

2. Terms that are used commonly on the forums and by mechanics for parts seem like french to the parts guy.
It is always a process to even figure out what part I am talking about I just find the part numbers myself.

3. Inventory system doesn't exist.
I would figure most dealers would have some kind of computerized system. It's like I'm dealing with a guy that is dealing parts out of his van. I give a part number over the phone there is a long pause I hear ruffling in the background and finally he will get back on the phone to tell me they don't have it.

4. Never had a part in stock.
Now I have a 4th gen so I'm assuming it is just getting less popular for dealer parts this is why they have none but I have always had to order the part even pads and rotors.

How are other peoples dealerships are they like this?

nissan of rivergate is like that BUT they have a computer system. I went out there one time, all I wanted was the alan screws that hold the spark plug cover on, they had to order them. It took 2 weeks to get them. WTF

Most parts departments...suck, to say the least.

From the time a parts guy was arguing with Merlyn and I that the '02s didn't have an available 6MT (and that the 6MT was only available in '05), to me having to literally tell the parts guy what section in FAST the part is in...

Use Dave B, problem solved.

for DaveB. Always a pleasure, knows his job better than any parts guy out there.

It's amazing how some dealership parts depts act like you're an inconvenience when you deal with them. My local Long Island dealership parts guy in Patchogue ranges in mood from disinterested to surly. I hate when I don't have the time to plan a purchase from Dave, eg emergency repair needs.
