Looking for a good mechanic around Santa Monica, CA

I have a 98 Maxima that was diagnosed with a leaky rear main seal by the local Nissan dealer who are planning to charge me through the nose ($900 to replace). I need a second opinion and more reasonable pricing. Anyone know of a good mechanic in my area?

If you're in Santa Monica, I would look down in West LA on Overland btw Venice and Palms, there are like 10 body shop and repair shops right there. Also, what you can do is call or go in to AAA (if you're a member), they have a list of reputable places. My favorite place is on Washington in Culver City, called Culver City Automotive, the guy does a great job, even though he only knows like 20 words in English, the rest in Russian. I'll let you know if I can find out any places.

LA area Shops

I would have to agree. Venice Blvd, Washington Blvd, there are quite a few. As for Santa Monica Nissan, I have become friendly with them over the years, but they aren't about to tell you you have options. Culver Nissan is useless.
If you don't mind coming closer to Hollywood, my mechanic is called Harry's Automotive - 1154 N. La Brea (about 1 blk North of Santa Monica Blvd). You can tell Harry that Hadley with the Black 91 Maxima sent you (that's my name). He's been working on my car for years.
I can also recommend Transmission related work in Santa Monica, I highly recommened Paul's Transmissions. It's right at the Lincoln Blvd exit off the 10fwy.
Hey Neal, do you have any experience with shops that work on Suspension in the area? I am looking to replace my shocks/struts on my 91SE.

Re: LA area Shops

I would have to agree also about Venice. My boyfriend always went there to get his car fixed. However I can't be much help because I do not know which particular shop he went to. (All he would say was he was going to Venice and then I would reply with "Why what is wrong with your car?" It was a given he went there for the car.
Let me know the place where you got the best deal at. Thanks.
