New Car Smell...

I was out at a VW meet tonight and was told about a local place in Tampa that does fantastic detailing. He told me that his "new car scent" came back after getting it detailed and it lasted about two months. What can I use when cleaning that will get me that original scent that I really love?

tried that a while back..definitely not a solution i would recommend to anyone else. lasts for about one day, and then smells musty

if its something the detailers are using, i would imagine its some sort of cleaner or protectant(i have cloth seats FWIW)

To be honest, the best way to get your interior smelling nice long-term is to shampoo the carpets and upholstery. The real smell of a new car (new plastic and carpeting) is impossible to duplicate and no new car scent stuff I've heard of comes close...

I have one of those fragrances similar to what you would get at an Auto parts store. The interior of my car winds up smelling like baby powder.

I use the Leather scent freshener from Yankee Candle Company. I just went on-line and ordered like 20. I love the smell of leather--it really compliments my leather seats and makes the car smell fresh.

type in Yankee Candle Company on yahoo. You will find the link for the website. Then browse the site for their automotive stuff. The fragrance last awhile. It is not a spray or anything it is one of those fresheners that you hang from the rearview. I just slide mine in my visor where the extender piece is.

Do you notice if it smells more of a "Imitation" smell, where its not very pure at all and smells like something else? Or does it really give your car that fresh leather smell?

It surprisingly smells like leather. I don't like to have it hanging--it is a yankee candle jar thingy. Just stuff it discretely where you want it. Like I said I put mine in the sliding extender piece of your visor(s). I put it in both sides. It smells like authentic leather for a fragrance. It is surprisingly good.

Wish they could replicate the way a new car really smells that lasts. Not like some feminine hygiene scent...Summer Rain Orifice Fresh.

I agree...I own a steam cleaner and do my carpets/seats regularly (couple times a year). Brings back that new car smell every time...
