rain and washing car

Is it pointless to wash your car when you know it will rain? My car is very dirty and I want to wash it. However, I checked out the weather report and it might rain here(New Orleans)for the next week or so. Geez...call for rain for 2 weeks?! Maybe because it's close to hurricane season here. The paint isn't in the best shape, it has it shares of swirl marks, chips, and scratches. Still I want to have the car look cleaned once in awhile. So should I just wait until the rain past?

do what you want......if you hand wash it, it costs you nothing really....don't take it to a car wash if it's gonna rain....besides...if you get alot of acid rain, washing won't help anyway...your paint is still doomed

Hey Mike,
Man, I am feelin ya on the whole 2 weeks worth of rain we've been getting and i'm gettin pi$$ed. Maxi is so dirty. It'll rain just enough to mess things up EVERYDAY. I'm scared to wash it cuz I know within a day it'll be dirty again. I'm thinking about just doing a quick handwash so it's not as bad as it is right now. Our black cars are suffering.

Considering that it takes me a lot of time for me to clean my car and a lot of work, I generally avoid washing my car when there is a threat of rain.

I take it to a car wash nearby that has a 5 day rain guarantee. Hard to beat that. I have a black Max as well and I love to have it clean.

Cool! I wish my area had a place like that.

A lot of places will have at least a 2 day--just ask them for it. If you get the wash that does the interior windows, vacuum, etc, etc, they will just wash the exterior if it rains in the time frame permitted. You just have to bring the receipt in. To me its worth it for those two days of sunshine to have your car sparkling.

I just purchased Clay Magic and wanted to try it to see if it lives up to all that I heard about it. However, for like the past month, it was raining every weekend (Only free time I have). Last weekend I went out just to try it on small section of the hood. To my amazement, it worked beyond my expectations. Needless to say, I ended up claying the whole car in the rain and then washing it.

People must have thought I was nutz.

I say wash it, at least you'll feel better that its clean...er, even if its gonna rain.

Wash it and get some good wax on it if you don't already have it. Wax will protect the paint from the acid rain. I don't like to let dirt build up on my paint, so I remove it every chance I get. Also, removing contaminants early and frequently will prevent contaminants from bonding to your paint, which means less claying to remove them.
If it is going to rain, my car still gets washed, just not as detailed as when the weather will be clear.
