Touch-Up Paint

What is the best way to apply touch-up paint? The brush that's attached to the cap seem a bit too large for small nicks. Any suggestions? Also, icelandic pearl applies dark. Does anyone know if it lightens up?

I touched up many chips on my Super Black hood. They ranged from all sizes. I agree that the brush may be too large for the smaller ones. You can try applying a small amount of touchup paint with a wooden toothpick or match stick. You sort of build it up till its even. However, the finish is never the same and although you really have to look, you'll see the small impefections, especially afetr you wax.

I don't think it will lighten up, maybe after it dries and you polish? Paint matching is pretty dificult to replicate from factory applied paint.

Thanks for the toothpick tip. With the supplied brush, I get more paint outside the chip. I was also thinking of visiting an art store and looking for a super thin brush tip.

I'll try this weekend.

Thanks,

when I paint little chips, I just use a fine artist's brush. I put just enough paint on the tip so that when the paint drop contacts the chip, it will just flow into the chip, filling in the hole. If you try to brush it on, sometimes the paint will dry with a ridged look.

Thanks for the link. Have you used this product. I just received some OEM touch-up paint. I provided the parts counter with my VIN. The only problem is that my Icelandic Pearl touch-up looks silver when applied. The bottle color is Icelandic Pearl.

Yep, used it about a dozen seperate times and it always comes out great. Used it on my neighbor's Cloud White Xterra and it looks perfect. Pearl colors are very hard to match. If you get a bad match with the OEM stuff, consider having a reputable body shop "scan" you car and give you a small bottle for touch-up.

The Nissan stealership has paint pens available. They are like a fine point marker on each end. One end has paint the other end has clear coat. Try getting one of those. I agree the usual touch up paint brushes are just way too big for normal rock chips. Alternately go to an art supply store and get a 0/1 size paint brush. Nice and tiny to put the right amount of paint in the chips.

I just got a botlle of sterling mist touch-up paint yestersday. Im gonna try it tonight and see if it will come out ok on JB Weld.

Yes, thats right. i have JB Weld on my trunk. It may sound ghetto but i had to fill in a large hole/gap. Tonight i just gotta sand it down flush and apply the touch-up paint.
