Zymol vs. Ibiz, guess who wins.....

So I run a little detailing business on the side, and today I went to detail a black Del Sol. The owner said she bought some real nice wax, but didn't remember what it was. So I got there and saw it was Zymol cleaner wax. I decided I would use Zymol on the drivers side, and my Ibiz on the passenger side to see how my Ibiz compares to a well respected brand.
The difference was painfully obvious. The Ibiz side was sooo much nicer when I was done. Looking at the reflection of a tree showed how the Ibiz made the surface MUCH clearer, and also much smoother. The Zymol side almost looked hazy compared to the Ibiz. A friend of the owner also agreed the Ibiz looked much better. However, the Zymol DID smell good.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with Ibiz, I suggest you buy a small bottle and test it out for yourself. I currently use a machine buffer, but when I did it by hand, the Ibiz was the easiest to apply and remove out of any other wax I had used before.
Time to take on Zaino.....

I wish I had taken a pic now that I think about it

Zymol cleaner wax isn't even made by zymol...it is not "nice" wax.

I believe it's made by Turtle Wax or Mothers or something like that...I can't remember at the moment. The point is that that stuff is just low end wax that Zymol has made to sell in Autozone and Wal-Mart and the like...it's not "real" Zymol.

The "real" stuff is much better and much more expensive and somewhat harder to apply. I used to use Zymol Carbon but it's longevity is *not* good at all. If I had a garage queen that I barely drove I would priobably use it because it looks amazing, but on a daily driver you would have to be waxing it too often to be practical (especially in the North east). Check out there website to see what other products they offer...

The "Real" Zymol is a paste wax that goes for 30-40 bucks a container and you generally have to go to a specialty store for it.

Its great.... but a real PITA

I believe S100 and Blitz are both pretty cheap. I think some people ahve had good luck with Meguiars as well.

Zymol is not that bad... it leaves a pretty good shine but it IS a pain to buff off.

When I used to use it I found that two things helped...

1.) Use it ONLY when it's cool out. Anything approaching a day you would call "a hot day" and it's too hot to use it.

2.) Let it set for a long *** time...the hotter is it the longer you wait. I found leaving it for a half hour or so made it MUCH MUCH easier to buff. You still have to watch out for those friggin streaks though...that wax streaks like crazy.

The difference between the shine with blitz or Ardex wasn't even close to enough to offset the huge penalty you pay in durability with Zymol for me though...ymmv.
