diagram of what all to cover up?
That's what I'm trying to figure out...I just want to clean it up a little bit with degresaser stuff...and people have said you can just use a hose, but I figured there would be something electrical that you can't get wet.
I just cover my Injen CAI's lower half. Be advised that if you are going to be using hard water it will leave mineral residue on any metal surfaces. So if you have polished any metal under the hood you may want to cover that as well. Otherwise you can polish off the residue.

Good luck,

I took out my battery for the engine washing I did today. I cleaned up my battery real good and hosed the entire engine bay down with STP engine degreaser. Then I let hose water run over my engine to get all the degreaser off. That stuff worked awesome. I went through a whole can on my engine bay today and I'll go through a whole can the next time I clean it. Totally worth it.

I would definitely definitely definitely cover the battery when I did this. I didn't cover my alternator when I did it and I won't forget to do that again.
My dad, inspired by my engine showering bravado, did this old car we have. The thing wouldn't start for a couple minutes even after blowing the electrical connections out with the compressor. Luckily the thing started again after about 1/2 hour, but we were lucky. I would be VERY careful about not covering things when I cleaned my engine...
