I'd use a bug and tar remover, then wash, possibly clay bar, and a wax.

 

I use a bug sponge on front of the car with plenty of Gold Class car wash and fairly gentle rubbing. For me, if there is a good coat of wax on the car, the bugs come off easily and I don't have to rewax right away. If more than gentle pressure is required, then what y2ksesteve said.

 

I find microfiber cloths really work well to get the bug junk off. Also I always put multiple coats of wax on my bumper, hood, and front fender areas since they will be getting the most road abuse.

I've never found the bug and tar remover stuff to do anything but cost me more money than plain soap and water.

The bug and tar remover always works for me After trips to Colorado, I come back to find usually 2-300 at least dead bugs on my bumper. I spray it all down with bug and tar remover, let it sit for a minute or so then go full pressure with the hose. That usually takes care of two-thirds or so of the bugs. Then normal washing finishes it, followed by lots of wax.

 

Just a little tip that worked great for me. 3M Adhesive remover with Citrius base. Eats right through the bug guts! Washed my car the other day, and there was still tar left on the bumper from where they are paving the highway Applied some of this stuff to a terry cloth and rubbed the tar and guts right off. Then polished with Meguire's. Unfortunately, it got late and I didnt get to wax. I guess I will get off my lazy butt and wash, polish, then wax tomorrow!

Speaking of bugs on the front bumper, I went to clean off some bugs this past weekend (used bug & tar remover) and noticed a whole bunch of them got past the grill and onto the radiator. Couldn't get them all out. How difficult is it to remove/pull out the radiator?

 

I was always told you weren't supposed to wax the bumpers cause they're made out of a different material than the rest of the car

 

Bug & Tar remover works for me as well.

DEFINITELY wax your bumpers. They're painted, and the material underneath doesn't matter all that much.
