How often should I wax?

I was told today that I should wash my car as often as possible, but wax it about 2 times a year. Is this true? Will it hurt the body if I wax more than that? I'm still a newbie when it comes to car detailing. Thanks in advance..

i don't see how waxing more than twice a year will hurt. i try to wax mine once a month (or two months if the shine is still good and the weather been good)

Waxing more often doesn't really hurt, but up to a certain point it doesn't really help either. I'd say once a month should take care of it unless you really like to do it.

Washing your car frequently can be a double edged sword too. Make sure that you're using safe materials and have good technique and practices, or else you will actually do more damage than if you were to just leave it alone.

seeing that I attend the CFL maxima.org meets every month, I wax mine every month to keep it looking tip top.

beginning of the season, it's:

clay, wash, polish, seal, wax... then wax 2-3 times a month.

Every 3-4 weeks I wax. Keeps the car glossy, smooth, and keeps wind noise/drag down.

You can get a personalized "Paint Rx" or whatever it's called at www.meguiars.com. This will help guide you in caring for your paint. It takes in to account the environmental conditions in your area (huge factor), amount of time you're willing to spend, and what your car care goals are. It's a pretty good guideline that you can then fine tune if needed. And it's free.

More wax can never hurt, but make sure you are using a pure wax with no cleaners or abrasives or else you are just stripping off the old wax everytime you add another layer.

i'd say it depends on the type of wax and how long it coats your car's finish. obviously if the car's parked outside, the wax will wash/wear/rub off sooner. Just watch how the water(or rain) beads off the car as a benchmark. My suggestion is to wax as needed.
