Is brake cleaner safe for all finishes?
Since I saw bags use brake cleaner to clean his new engine, it makes me wonder if it will work on everything else....
Wheels, mostyl - to get brake dust off..
But will it hurt chrome? or any other finish?

He used brake parts cleaner? Not wheel cleaner? I don't think you'll find many people that would suggest using that stuff on a regular basis.... chlorinated or not.
Even though brake parts cleaner would probably clean the bejeezus out of anything pretty well, I wouldn't risk using it on the wheels or engine compartment. For the engine compartment who knows what that stuff does to rubber or plastic or the labels? For the wheels, I'd worry about the long term health of the paint. There are other products out there that you could use for your engine compartment, and at least a couple other methods of cleaning your wheels. I'd just stick with conventional methods myself....
