Hey everyone, just got a buffer for christmas. I have no idea the steps to use when using rubbing compund, polishing compound and a wax. If anyone could fill me in that would be great. I would love to use it to get these white speckles out of my clear coat. Thanks in advance.

 

This is the process I follow: Wash the car with Dawn dish soap (strips all the old wax). Then use a clay bar to remove the surface contaminants. Then I use the buffer with a mild polish (I use Menzerna). Then I'll use the buffer with some Klasse AIO. Then I'll hand apply some Klasse SG, and finish up by hand applying some S100.

Not sure what kind of buffer you have. (I've got a Porter Cable) Make sure you use different pads for the polish and wax. I use the PC to apply the stuff only. With proper application, removing it by hand is pretty easy.

 

So buy some polishing compound, apply it. Do i have to wipe it off? Then clay bar it. Then buff it with Klasse AIO? Whats that? Then hand apply Klasse SG? Is that some sort of wax? Thanks for the help.

 

You've got the process a bit mixed up. This is what I do:

1. Wash with Dawn
2. Clay bar
3. Apply Polish with buffer (to remove minor scratches/swirl marks) Remove polish by hand with micro fiber cloth. Polish will make the most difference in how the paint looks. Always start with a mild polish..only use a more agressive one if the mild one doesn't do the job.
4. Apply AIO with buffer (Klasse All In One) A non abrasive polish/wax. Remove by hand with micro fiber cloth.
5. Hand apply Klasse SG (Sealant Glaze) Remove by hand. This is an acrylic sealer/wax. Also enhances the shine.
6. Hand apply S100. (carnuba wax) This adds to the shine as well as another layer of protection. Remove by hand with micro fiber cloth.

This is a very labor intensive process especially if the finish has been neglected, but it should result in a great looking finish.

Also, check out the stickies at the top of this forum for a lot more useful info. Other members have used many other products that can achieve the same results. Then post some before/after pics!!

 

What kind of buffer is it?

Its important, because if its not an orbital, and its a straight cut buffer (rotary), it can burn the paint (clearcoat) on your car.

Its a lot harder to burn the paint with an orbital buffer.

 

It should also be mentioned that after washing with Dawn and performing all the necessary claying/polishing and waxing steps, he not use Dawn or any other dishwashing liquid again since it strips wax, unless he wants to strip it everytime he washes and redo it.

 

Good point!! Yeah, you don't want to use Dawn on your car till you're ready to repeat this process again!! I use Zymol auto wash for regular washing....

I just got a TurtleWax Orbital Buffer too I got the 6" one and now I need to go buy more pads so I can use it after winter is over
