A decent paint job will cost you at least $1,000 and up.

yeah i agree, you can get a stage 1 paint job done decently for 1000. But for a stage two (basecoat + clearcoat), you are lookin at $3k+ for a good one. If you go cheap, ou will have alot of paint issues because there's alot of work done for prepping a car. And also, it is more expensive to change the color of your car.

Hope you get an idea... i've had my 89 celica painted 1-stage for $800 from a faded metallic blue to gunmetal gray. They actually mixed the base/pearl/clear together. The paint looks great, but there are a couple chips here and there. Those arne't so bad so far because I have 3 year warranty so I get em fixed.

Someone had backed into my maxima and basically ruined the door driverside door and a ding in the fender. It cost $2k to replace the door (it was $400 shell + some labor) but the invoice for the paint was alone around $1k. This was a 2 stage paint.

anyways, good luck.

Since you want a color change, you will be spending big bucks. It will run you $1800-$2200 to have JUST the outside done. $600 more if you want door and trunk jambs. $300 (at least) if you want the top of the engine bay. $1200 if you want the whole engine bay.

If you want the whole car repainted, where they litterally take EVERYTHING out of the car and cover over every single spot that once had paint, that is around $4000-$6,000. But almost nobody gets that intricate of a paint job.

it also drops the value of the car if you change the color. Or is that with any paintjob?

He's right. It's generally a clue to the buyer that the stock paint was not well maintained. If you take good care of your car it will generally not need a new paint job.
