My car got Keyed!
My car got Keyed!
Well, some MFer keyed my car from the driver's side door all the way back to the end of the passenger door. There are some spots where the cut goes down to the metal. Had a few body shops take a look at it and all of them quoted ~$350 to have both door panels repainted. Well, this is too rich for my blood right now so I was wondering if I could get some tips in trying to repair this on my own. I'll post some pic up later today when I have access to a digital camera. Thanks for the help.
Technically, the process is going to involve sanding, priming, painting, and clearcoat (with sanding in between each step). If you don't feel comfortable undertaking a project of this nature, I deifinitely advise letting a pro handle it.
I don't mind the work at all. I just need some product recommendations as well as any technique tips. I can still use the body shop as a last result if I don't like how it turns out. Thanks for your input.
You dont have to do all of that, my brothers bimmer got keyed his license plate was "4U2NV", got keyed 2 months after getting it brand new with 7 miles on it. He owns his own detailing business now, he got rid of the scratch and helped me get rid of some on my max. You have to get some sand paper I forgot the grit, you get a lubricant a mixture of water and rubbing alcohol, you soak the sand paper in water for 15-20 minutes, then when you do it, do it in sections. Spray an area with the water/alcohol mixture, you have to make sure that it is properly lubricated at all times, and rub the scratch with the sand paper, keep spraying as you do that, do that until the scratch is gone. The area that you sand will turn a dull gray, use a buffer with a compound, then a swirl remover(i.e. meguiars) and buff it out. Thats all you have to do the whole process should take about 20 minutes to do!!! hope that helps you

Some of the spots are pretty deep so I don't think I will be able to do your method right off the bat. I will attempt to fill in the cuts and then perform your method after allowing it to dry. Weather over hear has been strange, snowing one day then raining the next, so I haven't had a chance to try and clean it up. I don't think I offended anyone and come across as easy going so I don't think I upset anyone more less enaough to want to key my car. My guess is it was some punk kids wanting to damage cars at random. It was parked on the street out in front of my house and it was just cleaned/waxed that day so it stood out. Thanks again for the replies.
