Clay Bar, any good?

I have seen and heard of clay bar in auto stores. Are they any good and what is it really designed to use for? Any experience and suggestion would be useful since I am considering to buy one.

The clay bar is used to get environmental contaminants off the surface of your car. It's safe to use, but follow directions. I clay mine at least once a year in the spring to get all the winter crap off the car. They sell a spray to use with the bar (lubricant), but I just use lots of water after the car is clean. Read some of the stickys for good info. Wash, clay, polish, wax.

I use it twice a year. I clayed last fall and this past weekend, I felt my paint. Man, I was surprised at how much stuff was in the clearcoat from the winter. I'll clay again for the summer in a few weeks.

Claybar is quite possibly they best investment you can make for you max's paint. All the top dollar polishes and waxes arent worth **** if you don't have a good foundation for them. I am a 110% believer.

Clay kits are often found in auto parts stores too, not just department stores. Autozone, Pep Boys(?), and local chains should sell either the Mothers or Clay Magic kit...

Clay bars by themselves are usually only sold through mail order. If you can find a Clay Magic distributor in your area (check their website or contact them) sometimes they'll sell the HUGE 200g bars that way, but they're not cheap IIRC.

I always use Clay Magic, although other brands that I have tried do a good job also.

It is always amazing to feel how smooth the paint surface is after it is clayed and waxed. The shine is amazing too.

I just got done claying mine.

I'm taking a break before I go get the wax on it.

I read a recommendation somewhere that I'll pass along. Grab a plain ol' sandwich baggie. Put your hand in it, and rub it across your paint. Clay a little square, then repeat the baggie. If you're not sold on claying after that, you never will be...

Shouldn't this be done out of the direct sun?
